MLB DFS: Aces and Bases – 6/5 (FanDuel Main Slate)

Today’s edition of Aces and Bases focuses ONLY on FanDuel’s six-game MLB DFS Main Slate for 7:05PM ET, hopefully finding you some green screens!

No major weather concerns, but there’s a game in Coors with an 11.5 point total and two pitchers, one — LHP Kyle Freeland — with 7 BB in 8.0 IP so far this season and the other, visiting lefty SP Cole Irvin — with a .358 career road wOBA. It goes without saying to get exposure to this game, but we’ll give you some other options to consider.

MLB DFS: The Aces

Top MLB DFS Ace: Jacob deGrom ($11,500)

It’s hard to click any other name at SP on FD, even though Kevin Gausman’s last four starts (averaging 52.5 FD points and 9 K per game) have the edge on deGrom’s last four (43.25 FD points and 8 K per game). The Mets ace costs just $300 more than Gausman and boasts a very silly 1.53 xFIP, compared to a still-impressive 3.07 for the Giants RHP. I’ll have shares of both, but deGrom is still deGOAT.

Best GPP Value: Joe Musgrove ($8,300)

He’s much harder to trust than the big dogs, but Muskrat Joe (2.08 ERA, 2.65 xFIP, 11.72 K/9 in 11 starts this season) is a dynamic pitcher who can break a slate. The salary savings allow you to get whatever Coors game stack you want, albeit with a much higher risk. There are definitely signs that regression is coming, as Musgrove’s .212 BABIP is a solid 80 percentage points lower than his career metric (.294), but I’m willing to ride out another start about this pesky DFS darling.

Contrarian GPP Play: Kevin Gausman ($11,200)

Gausman’s numbers are amazing this season, and as discussed earlier in the deGrom writeup, he’s on a helluva run with his K numbers. The Cubs strike out at a 25.2% team rate, a lot more than the Padres (21.1%), so I’m inclined to be overweight on Gausman in GPPs for the additional leverage, as deGrom should still earn more ownership. Again — pricing is pretty soft for some of the high-projected-total games, so the big spend SPs will make up about 90 percent of the ownership.

MLB DFS: The Bases

Top Stack: Colorado Rockies vs. OAK LHP Cole Irvin

The A’s are a fine choice for top spot too, with Mark Canha ($4,200), Matt Chapman ($3,800), Matt Olson ($4,400)and Jed Lowrie ($3,600) being the obvious four-man stack at or near the top of the order. But they are pretty expensive, and they might be tough to fit in some cases with deGrom or Gausman up top. Canha is an impressive hitter who sees the ball well and makes for an amazing leadoff hitter in Coors, so I’ll haver some Colorado stacks that add on him as the primary one-off for OAK, and then find a three-man stack from another game for leverage. For the Rockies, I prefer C.J. Cron ($3,700), Charlie Blackmon ($3,900), Garrett Hampson ($3,300) and Joshua Fuentes ($3,400) against Irvin (who’s given up 24 hits over his last three starts), though there may be some other necessary value plays depending on who starts.

Value Stack: New York Yankees vs. BOS LHP Eduardo Rodriguez

Rodriguez has been very “gettable” in his last three starts, and while the Yankees strike out a lot, Yankee Stadium is getting hot and humid and the wind is blowing out to right center today, aiding some of those power righty bats in the Bronx. There’s loads of value and upside in rostering a three or four-man Yankees stack tonight, with D.J. LeMahieu ($3,000), Aaron Judge ($3,600) and Gleyber Torres ($2,900) as my three favorite “spends” and Gio Urshela ($2,500), Gary Sanchez ($2,400) and Clint Frazier ($2,300) clocking in with serious bargain prices.

Contrarian Stack: Los Angeles Angels vs. SEA LHP Yusei Kikuchi

Kikuchi has been okay in 2021, but he hasn’t been missing as many bats in his last few starts, opening himself up for a possible letdown against the home team Angels and their parade of right-handed power bats, including Justin Upton ($3,000), Anthony Rendon ($3,200) and Taylor Ward. ($2,600) And there’s obviously Shohei Ohtani ($4,000), whose metrics against LHP are a bit down in ’21. But $2K punts Phil Gosselin ($2,000) and Juan Lagares ($2,000) are in play (if they play) tonight, as Gosselin boasts great numbers vs. LHP (.460 wOBA in 26 AB this season)

Good luck, and make sure you utilize the MLB Projection models to land on your one-offs and off-the-wall value plays!

8/29 DFS Hitting and Stacks

I was excited to get you all some dingers from three out of my featured eight hitters for the 15-game Tuesday slate, but we’re aiming even higher for my second piece here at Win Daily Sports. Were building GPP stacks for the Thursday 8/29 DFS main slate, and we’ve only got six games on tap. While there’s an obvious game we want to use some hitters from, I’ll try to identify a few value plays so we can throw a potent stack or two in our GPP builds so your bankroll gets a boost.

8/29DFS Hitting Catcher

JorgeAlfaro, MIA vs. CIN

DK($3,800), FD ($2,800)

We can only hope that Alfaro’s day off on Wednesday hasn’t cooled off one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past week. Not only is he in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, slashing .524/.424/1.000 with three homers and four RBI during that stretch, but he’s got an excellent matchup in his home park, where he sports a 117 RC+ and .339 wOBA. You can use whomever is catching for the Pirates (Elias Diaz $3,400 DK or Jacob Stallings $3,300 DK) for a few bucks cheaper, but Alfaro should still be low-owned and has solid upside in this 8/29 DFS spot.

8/29DFS Hitting First Baseman

JoshBell, PIT at COL

DK($5,400), FD ($4,300)

Bell’s price is steep, and I wouldn’t dare belittlethe benefit of Clay Bellinger (who’s also OF-eligible on DK) here, but theallure of Coors is what’s drawing me in – along with a .426 xwOBA againstright-handers. The eminently hittable Chi Chi Gonzalez is on the bump for theRockies, and while he’s had more success at home than on the road, it’s a smallenough sample that I feel a market correction and stackable situation buildingfor the Pirates mashers. There’s plenty of 1B/2B/OF combos available if you mixin Bell with the Dodgers bats, so explore them.

8/29DFS Hitting Second Baseman

StarlinCastro, MIA vs. CIN

DK($3,600), FD (3B – $2,400)

On Tuesday we scored bigwith Jason Kipnis in a pitcher’s park here, and I’m looking for hidden valueagain with Castro, a classic variance-positive hero whose price never seems toelevate despite his wide range of DFS outcomes. He had a hand in winning me aGPP and $20K in the past, and I usually fare well by using him at home facingleft-handers. With Alex Wood on the mound and our fearless veteran infielder checkingin with a .405 xwOBA against LHP the past two seasons, I feel comfortable notingan additional BvP tidbit: Castro is 5-for-10 career off Wood. He’s cheap onFanDuel too, but he’s a 3B on that site so you can look to Adam Frazier ($3,600FD) at 2B there.

8/29DFS Hitting Shortstop

TrevorStory, COL vs. PIT

DK($5,600), FD ($4,300)

Story is the top shortstop on the slate, much like Xander Bogaerts was the top SS on Tuesday (ding-dong!!). You can save a few bucks by taking Kevin Newman ($5,100 DK, $4,000 FD) but that seems counterproductive when there’s enough value elsewhere to use the best. Sure, Story is better facing southpaws, but he’s carrying a .446 xwOBA against righties and a .434 wOBA at home over the past two seasons. He’s facing a good contact manager in Trevor Williams (87.5 aEV), but a lot of that goes out the door in Coors, where sinkers and sliders go to die. If you absolutely, positively can’t fit him, Manny Machado (3B/SS $4,100 DK) makes for a bargain upside option.

8/29DFS Hitting Third Baseman

ColinMoran, PIT at COL

DK($4,800), FD ($3,700)

Moran’s aggressive approach could fare well in this hitting environment, and he’s not necessarily going to attract too much ownership with a slew of other priority plays in Pirates stacks. The .405 xwOBA vs. LHPs is an appealing metric, and while he doesn’t have the raw power of some of the other 3B on the slate, including counterpart Nolan Arenado (.309 home ISO), he’s likely to be batting fifth after Bell and looks like the finishing touch on a full 1-5 DK stack. Again, Machado is an option on DK and on FD, where he’s just $3,500.

8/29DFS Hitting Outfielder

JocPederson, LAD at ARI

DK($4,400), FD ($3,300)

Joc went deep a couple nights ago, and while I mentioned him as an option in my Jackie Bradley Jr. writeup, I didn’t dedicate a unique space for this inconsistent-but-exciting millennial masher. I love the matchup against Merrill Kelly (.413 xwOBA vs. LHBs), who’s shown marginal effectiveness but yields a lot of long balls. Pederson is leading off once again and that’s always nice on a team with an implied total over five runs.

8/29DFS Hitting Outfielder

Aristides Aquino, CIN at MIA

DK($5,000), FD ($4,100)

I know – I’m clicking onway too hitters for a game in a pitcher’s park. But there’s not a ballyard thatcan hold the meteoric Aquino (.426 xwOBA vs. RHP) and he’s facing righty RobertDugger, who go rocked in his only Major League appearance on Aug. 5 in CitiField. We’d prefer Aquino face a lefty (.668 xwOBA against southpaws in 19 AB),but he might do that in the later innings after the Reds dispatch Dugger. Thereare loads of cheaper hitting options in friendlier confines, but I’m low-keyliking this Reds team facing the doe-eyed Dugger.

8/29DFS Hitting Outfielder

J.D. Davis, NYM vs. CHC

DK ($4,200), FD ($2,900)

Davis is batting thirdand gets a left-hander in Jon Lester, and that’s ideal considering his .476xwOBA and .359 OBP against southpaws. He’s also got a .308 ISO at home thisseason and could be entering another hot patch (3-for-8, HR in his last twogames). He’ll save you some salary and makes for a fine one-off or part of amini-Mets stack that includes Pete Alonso ($5,200 DK, $4,100 FD) and MichaelConforto ($4,500 DK, $3,300 FD).

8/29DFS Hitting Stacks

8/29 DFS Hitting Stack of the Day: Pittsburgh Pirates: No surprise here. The trick will be finding the right combination of Newman, Starling Marte ($5,800 DK, $4,200 FD), Bryan Reynolds ($5,300 DK, $4,100 FD), Moran, Jose Osuna (1B/3B $5,000 DK, $3,200 FD), Adam Frazier ($4,800 DK, $3,600 FD) and the starting catcher.

8/29 DFS Hitting Stack Runner-Up: Colorado Rockies: It’s possible to fit in a nearly full game stack in Coors without compromising pitching if we take advantage of the SD-SF game, so I’m bullish on using as many hitters from this 14-run total as we can. Charlie Blackmon ($5.700 DK, $4,400 FD), Ryan McMahon ($4,700 DK, $3,500 FD), Story and Arenado ($5,700 DK, $4,700 FD) are my preferred four in a matchup against Williams and his 5.22 xFIP. If Williams scares you that much, you can lean more heavily toward Dodgers bats or take a gander at the group below.

8/29 DFS Hitting Stack to Consider: Cincinnati Reds: Despite the tasty matchup against a rookie hurler, I don’t expect too many Reds stacks. Let’s look at the projected top five hitters here, including Aquino, Josh VanMeter ($4,200 DK, $3,000 FD), Joey Votto ($3,900 DK, $2,800 FD), Eugenio Suarez ($4,500 DK, $4,000 FD) and Freddy Galvis (SS $4,100 DK, 2B $2,700 FD). Nick Senzel ($4,400 DK, $3,200 FD) could be sneaky as well, since he’s solid (.359 xwOBA) vs. RHP.

8/27 DFS Hitting and Stacks

It’s a full schedule (15 games) so let’s embrace the variance and give you some solid plays for those GPPs in 8/27 DFS!Sign up NOW for WIN DAILY Premium Gold right here! Realmuto, PHI vs. PITDK ($4,600), FD ($3,600)I wouldn’t blame you for picking one of the catchers in the Coors Field game, but Realmuto is locked into a good matchup at home versus LHP Steven Brault (who has his biggest problem against RHBs and their cumulative .345 wOBA) and won’t be as highly owned as some of the other studs around his price point. The Phillies backstop sports a .294/.344/.563 slash against southpaws and is a better hitter at home as well (.375 wOBA, 132 wRC+).8/27 DFS Hitting First BasemanRhys Hoskins, PHI vs. PITDK ($4,500), FD ($3,900)You probably have an inkling who one of my non-Coors stacks is going to be at this point, but I’ll refresh your memory a bit on Hoskins and his destruction of LHPs at home this year. In 67 plate appearances, he’s hitting a ridiculous .340/.485/.680 at Citizens Bank versus southpaws with a similarly preposterous .340 ISO. He just ended a long homer drought and he’s been batting near the top of the lineup.8/27 DFS Hitting Second BasemanJason Kipnis, CLE at DETDK ($3,700), FD ($3,200)Kipnis benefits from facing a bad pitcher who struggles against lefties (Turnbull has a .373 xwOBA vs. LHB this season) and is primarily a value play that might help fit some of the more potent stacks. Hitters in Comerica Park are usually smart to avoid, but as a one-off in the middle of a dangerous lineup, Kipnis is worth a look in large-field GPPs for his reduced price on DraftKings and a tasty matchup. For BvP fans, he’s 3-for-9 career against Spencer Turnbull with a HR – the only Indians player who’s gone deep off the Tigers hurler.8/27 DFS Hitting ShortstopXander Bogaerts, BOS at COLDK ($5,700), FD ($4,100)The Red Sox are facing a pitcher making his Major League debut on Tuesday, and we’ll discuss the stack a bit later – but Bogaerts is one of the best Red Sox to start against either LHPs or RHPs (over the past two seasons he’s sporting an xwOBA of .406 against both types of pitcher with an ISO of .244 against RHPs) and he’s an excellent play in all formats if you can afford him. There’s a bevy of decent options at SS on this slate, and Bogaerts is the best of them.8/27 DFS Hitting Third BasemanMatt Chapman, OAK at KCDK ($4,800), FD ($3,600)Chapman endured a prolonged slump in July that saw him hit just two HRs and slash a measly .231/.299/.385, but he’s broken through in August with improved power (.303 ISO in 20 games this month) and is coming off a big night in Kansas City where the entire A’s lineup went wild. If you’re not too ken on going right back to the well with a full Athletics stack, Chapman makes a good one-off bat against the left-handed Mike Montgomery.Tired of losing money on your DFS and Sportsbook? Sign up today and become a winner while turning your passion for sports into a second stream of income!8/27 DFS Hitting OutfielderKhris Davis, OAK at KCDK ($3,400), FD ($2,400)Another value play that could help you fit in some of the more expensive stacks, Davis had a big Monday night in Kansas City and is starting to heat up with homers in two of his last five games. He’s one of the cheaper options who’s capable of a multi-HR game and sports a .443 xwOBA against lefties over the past two seasons. He’s a risk, for sure, but he’ll be relatively low-owned and doesn’t cost much.8/27 DFS Hitting OutfielderJackie Bradley, Jr., BOS at COLDK ($4,200), FD ($3,000)If Bradley gets the start in Coors, he makes for an excellent value play given the implied run total and the relatively cheap price. He’s homered twice in his last four games and any ball he hits into a gap could end up a triple. Bradley’s a much better hitter versus RHP and provides some much-needed salary relief in an otherwise expensive stack. You’ll have to double check to maker sure he’s in the lineup, but his price range offers some decent swap-outs (Joc Pederson and Matt Beaty are both $4,200 in the later games).8/27 DFS Hitting OutfielderMookie Betts, BOS at COLDK ($5,500), FD ($4,600)Betts is a little cheaper than both Charlie Blackmon and J.D. Martinez and should be busy wreaking havoc against the Rockies pitching staff. An excellent cash game play given his upside and baseline, Betts has a good matchup and makes for a smart anchor in Red Sox GPP stacks as well. He has a .469 xwOBA over the last two seasons facing RHPs and hits left-handers just as well – so the Rockies’ bullpen could be in for a long night.8/27 DFS Hitting Stacks8/27 Hitting Stack of the Day: Boston Red Sox: The first five hitters (Betts, Rafael Devers, Bogaerts and Andrew Benintendi – who’s DTD with side tightness – are my favorite four in that bunch) are going to be awfully expensive, so it might be best to swap out J.D. Martinez ($5,600 DK) for the aforementioned Bradley, Mitch Moreland ($4,800 on DK and $3,500 FD) Brock Holt ($4,000 DK and $2,900 FD) or even catcher Sandy Leon ($2,600 DK).8/27 Hitting Stack Runner-Up: Colorado Rockies: Rick Porcello has a lot more experience than counterpart Rico Garcia, but he’s still facing a lineup with an implied total over 6 runs and plenty of potent bats, including Charlie Blackmon ($5,700 DK, $4,500 FD, Trevor Story ($5,600 DK, 4,300 FD), Nolan Arenado ($5,600 DK, $4,600 FD) and Ian Desmond ($4,300 DK, $2,900 FD) – with value options 2B/OF eligible Garrett Hampson ($3,300 DK and $2,700 FD) and C Tony Wolters ($3,400 DK).8/27 Hitting Stack to Consider: Philadelphia Phillies: This could be an overlooked stack with Realmuto and Hoskins, Bryce Harper ($5,100 DK), Scott Kingery ($4,600 DK) and Jean Segura ($4,300) as my favorite options.

The MLB DFS Hitting Picks Of Destiny For August 17

This Saturday August 17th slate is all about landing the right bats. Follow my stud and value plays and lock in the MLB DFS Picks of Destiny.

Catcher: Wellington Castillo ($2,600 FD) gets to hit against lefty Jose Suarez tonight in L.A. Castillo has two homers in 59 at bats vs southpaws and hits .220 ISO/ .322 wOBA. He should be batting fifth vs. a pitcher I am not afraid to target. Suarez has a 6.57 ERA and has given up four homers in his last eight innings. We are going to need some extra MLB DFS salary to pay up for bats tonight and Castillo provides the relief.

Catcher: Dom Nunez ($3,000 FD) it’s a long shot but if Nunez plays you can roster him. Hitting in Coors vs. my top pitcher to target against, Hector Noesi (7.11 ERA). Nunez has played in only one MLB game this season, but he homered. In 213 ABs he did it 14 times in the minors.

Honorable Mention: Mitch Garver/Jason Castro

First Base: Albert Pujols ($3,300 FD) Tonight we target the Hectors in MLB DFS. Hector Santiago was used to coming out of the bullpen and only pitching an inning or two. Last start the White Sox tried to stretch him out and he got lit up for four earned runs in 4.2 innings. He has a 7.11 ERA and 1.89 WHIP. The Angels may sneak under the radar tonight. Pujols tends to come alive on weekends, especially at home. So far this season Pujols has nine homers vs. lefties and hits .248 ISO/ .343 wOBA.

First Base: C.J. Cron ($3,200 FD) faces yet another home run prone pitcher in Ariel Jurado in a very hot Globe Life Park. Cron has been cold lately but he has the power and it just takes one swing. The Twins are in a great spot tonight and Cron will have the opportunity to help clear the bases. He has 10 home runs on the season vs righties and I think he makes it 11 by this time tomorrow. He is hitting .188 ISO/.288 wOBA.

Honorable Mentions: Jose Abreu, Daniel Murphy

Second Base: Ryan Goins ($2,400 FD) also gets to face Jose Suarez tonight (6.57 ERA). Goins has two homers in 28 ABs against lefties with a .286 ISO/ .470 wOBA. He is cheap, will be low owned and Suarez is vulnerable. Sounds like a good MLB DFS combination to me.

Second Base Value: Scooter Gennett ($2,500 FD) This is a salary saver play. Gennett looks to be getting comfortable at the plate again. He is batting fifth on a Giants team that should bomb Taylor Clarke (5.46 ERA) who almost has given up a homer in every game he has pitched in this year, sometimes more.

Honorable mentions: Luis Arraez, Ryan McMahon

Third Base Base: Nolan Arenado ($4,500 FD) Play the Rockies today. They are going to destroy Hector Noesi at home. In a small sample size Noesi has a 8.18 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. He has good strikeout stuff but that’s fine. He is going to give up plenty of runs to erase that, then we get the Marlins BP. Arenado has 19 homers vs righties and hits .235 ISO/. 367 wOBA.

Third Base: Matt Thaiss ($2,600) This is another value play vs a pitcher I want to target in Hector Santiago. Thaiss hasn’t done much lately, which has helped suppress his price all the way down to $2,600 on FanDuel. In his 11 ABs vs lefties he has one homer and hits .273 ISO/.393 wOBA. Thaiss will have an even better chance to hit whatever righty pitcher comes in after Santiago has had enough.. He has an additional four home runs on righty pitching since mid July.

Short Stop: Trevor Story ($4,500 FD) is my top shortstop, although I also like the two below. He has 21 homers on the season and has the nuts matchup vs Noesi. Don’t overthink this one.

Short Stop: Evan Longoria ($3,200 FD) and the Giants are hot right now. Longo has 11 home runs with a .207 ISO/.325 wOBA on the season. In his last seven games he is hitting .423/.692. He goes against Taylor Clarke in Arizona tonight.

Shortstop Value: David Fletcher ($3,000 FD) His numbers on the season are average but he can thrive in the leadoff spot. In the last seven days he is batting .423/.654 SLG. He has nine hits in his last four games and gets Hector Santiago.

Outfield: Mike Trout ($4,900 FD) What do I need to say? It’s Mike Trout vs Hector Santiago. If you have the salary use him. Trout has eight homers vs lefties this year and hits .304 ISO/.436 wOBA. If the White Sox aren’t too scared to pitch to him he should hit one, or two, out.

Outfield: Charlie Blackmon ($4,700) I was dreaming about the Rockies vs. Hector Noesi last night. The matchup is perfect, and in Coors?! How do you not play them? Blackmon bats lead and has at least one hit in 13 of his last 15 games. If you are just looking at FanDuel boxscores people may get scared of playing him because he hasn’t hit a homer since August 8th and has been burning people for about a week. Don’t let the price tag scare you off. Blackmon should be in store for a multi-hit night and should be worth the price. We need the back end of the Rockies lineup to get on base so Blackmon gets his RBI. That should not be an issue vs the Marlins pitching.

Outfield: Alex Dickerson ($3,200 FD) LOL at $3,200 for Dickerson tonight vs Clarke. He can absolutely crush the ball and no one ever plays him in MLB DFS. He has six homers on his shortened season vs righties and hits .313 ISO/ .450 wOBA. He didn’t get his homer last night but he will tonight. LOCK.

Honorable Mentions: Eddie Rosario, Kole Calhoun, Mike Yastrzemski, Kevin Pillar, Max Kepler

Rockies, Giants, Twins and Angels are all in GREAT spots. If you like a bat off one of those teams and they are not mentioned above you can still play them. I tried to narrow down my plays here.

8/13 DFS Hitting Catcher

Gary Sanchez, NYY vs. BAL

DK ($4,300) FD ($4,000)

A lefty (John Means) against Sanchez…..sign me up! The slugging catcher is posting a .360 wOBA, .291 ISO and .860 OPS against left-handers for his career.

8/13 DFS Hitting First Baseman

Paul Goldschmidt, STL vs. KC

DK ($4,400) FD ($4,100)

Goldschmidt just might be the streakiest hitter in the Majors. And we catch him on a tear with hits in three consecutive games, including multiple hits in two of them, with a homer and four each of RBI and runs. Glenn Sparkman, the opposing starting pitcher, has proved to be a below-average MLB pitcher.

8/13 DFS Hitting Second Baseman

Rougned Odor, TEX at TOR

DK ($4,100) FD ($3,300)

Odor had eight homers and 15 RBI over his previous 15 games. That home run potential is what we are chasing here and he came through for us last night. Do not be scared of the left on left matchup, as the Blue Jays starter Thomas Pannone, will likely have a short outing.

8/13 DFS Hitting Third Baseman

Gio Urshela, NYY vs BAL

DK ($5,000) FD ($4,400)

Yankees. Get as many Yankees as you can tonight. Though Gio disappointed a bit out of the 3-hole last night, you have to love Aaron Boone’s confidence in him to bat him there. And maybe disappointed is too strong of a word, as he recorded three hits and scored twice.

8/13 DFS Hitting Shortstop

Gleyber Torres, NYY vs. BAL

DK ($4,400) FD ($3,600)

I am unashamedly stealing from John Sterling here. You know when I as a Red Sox fan do that, then I must really like the Yankees tonight. Anyway, as the calendar approaches, Gleyber Day and the first weekend of September, you can count on Torres. Sort of like how you can count on a good Gleyber to be there for you. I am sorry, I apologize. I really do. USE THE YANKEE BATS TONIGHT!

8/13 DFS Hitting Outfielders

Aaron Judge, NYY vs. BAL

DK ($4,400) FD ($4,000)

The price is just too low going up against a struggling lefty.

Nomar Mazara

DK ($4,200) FD ($3,500)

Another lefty on lefty matchup to not be scared of tonight in Toronto. This guy is starting to hit the ball hard and the Jays will have to use their bullpen a bunch tonight.

Charlie Blackmon

DK ($5,600) FD ($4,600)

This is my spend-up outfielder for tonight. He disappointed last night with only five DK fantasy points, what are the chances he does that again tonight?

Stacks to use Tonight

Yankees: They get the Orioles. you know what to do.
Rockies/Diamondbacks: This game is at Coors. The weather is warm. The ball will carry great. I like the Yankees stack better simply because the two starting pitchers in this game (Gallen and Gray) are both pretty good (though this is Gallen’s 1st Coors experience).
Rangers: This choice will make you different than the crowd. We have seen that the Blue Jays starting pitcher, Thomas Pannone, is a lefty that can be hit hard.

DFS Hitting and Prop Picks for 7/17: Braun, Cron and More

Our Monday DFS article was titled “Don’t Fade the Tribe”. That was alluding to the fact that we loved the Indians and Dodgers and we’re going to look to build off that momentum here. Those two offenses combined for 24 runs and we absolutely obliterated our MKF pick that had Bellinger, Muncy and Seager combining for more than 3.5 hits.

Catcher

Wilson Ramos, NYM at MIN

DK ($3,700) FD ($2,600)

Ramos has seen his price drop on these DFS sites throughout the year but this is a spot where we definitely want to use him. Aside from the price, facing a lefty is what makes him such an attractive option on this slate. In fact, Ramos is providing a .438 OBP, .556 SLG and .994 OPS against southpaws this season. That’s actually not far off of his three-year averages, with Ramos generating a .912 OPS dating back to 2017. That’s huge for a player this cheap and Martin Perez is certainly not a guy we need to worry about. Over his last seven starts, Perez is pitching to a 6.32 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.

First Base

C.J. Cron, MIN vs. NYM

DK ($3,700) FD ($3,300)

I initially had Pete Alonso in here but I think we have similar upside with Cron at $1,000 cheaper. Not only does Cron have an ISO approaching .250 since the beginning of last season, he’s absolutely obliterated left-handed pitching. So far this year, Cron is posting a .404 OBP and .679 SLG en route to a ridiculous 1.084 OPS against southpaws. That makes these DFS prices hard to figure out, as he should have success against a pitcher with a 5.17 xFIP.

Second Base

Keston Hiura, MIL vs. ATL

DK ($4,600) FD ($3,400)

These DFS sites need to take notice of this kid, as he looks like a star in the making. Let’s start with his absurd Triple-A numbers, with Hiura tallying a .330 AVG and 1.089 OPS at that level this season. That fantastic form has appeared to carry over to the Majors, with Hiura accruing a .915 OPS with the Brewers in 117 at-bats, which doesn’t even include a 3-for-3 game with a dinger on Tuesday. Getting to face a lefty is simply the icing on the cake, as that puts the platoon advantage in Hiura’s favor.

Third Base

Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. DET

DK ($4,400) FD ($3,600)

Don’t look now but Ramirez is starting to get hot. This dude was simply one of the best players in fantasy last season and it was really hard to understand why he had such terrible numbers over the first three months. All the hard-hit stats were there and positive regression finally appears to be turning around. Over his last 16 games, Ramirez is hitting .333 while generating a .988 OPS. That’s the guy that we’ve become accustomed to and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him do this for the rest of the season. Spencer Turnbull is not really a guy we need to fade either, with the Tigers righty pitching to a 7.80 ERA and 1.93 WHIP over his last four starts.

Outfield

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. SF

DK ($5,800) FD ($4,700)

If you’re unfamiliar with Blackmon’s splits, let me reinforce these ridiculous numbers. So far this season, Blackmon is providing a .426 AVG and .826 SLG en route to a 1.357 OPS. Those are Barry Bonds-like numbers and it’s really no surprise that he’s one of the highest-priced players. What we like here is that he gets the platoon advantage against Shaun Anderson, with Blackmon tallying a 1.028 OPS against righties this season while Anderson is posting a 4.48 ERA and 1.44 WHIP.

Ryan Braun, MIL vs. ATL

DK ($4,200) FD ($3,000)

I liked Braun a lot more a few years ago for DFS purposes but he’s still always in consideration against left-handers. For his career, Braun has a .389 OBP and .596 SLG agaimst southpaws en route to a .985 OPS. Even those numbers made me shake my head, as he’s truly put together a fantastic career. That alone makes these prices mind-boggling and the fact that he’s gotten on base in seven of his 11 plate appearances against Dallas Keuchel only adds to his intrigue.

Khris Davis, OAK vs. SEA

DK ($3,600) FD ($3,100)

Davis is mired in a nightmarish slump but these DFS prices are getting kind of insane. The simple fact is, Davis still leads the league in home runs since 2016 while generating an ISO approaching .300 in that span. That sort of power potential isn’t matched by many $4,500 players, let alone a guy who’s on the low $3,000’s. This matchup is fantastic for Davis too, as Leake’s 16 percent career K rate is perfect for a swing-and-miss guy like Davis. That doesn’t even take into consideration that Leake is pitching to a 6.86 ERA and 1.73 WHIP over his last four starts.

Cody Bellinger Over 1.5 Total Bases

So, you’re telling me that all we need is two singles or an extra-base hit from Bellinger to cash this prop? That seems downright silly to me, as Bellinger has been the best hitter in the game. I couldn’t write him up in the article because of his price but we absolutely love him against Nick Pivetta, who’s pitching to a 5.81 ERA and 1.49 WHIP.

Robbie Ray Under 7.5 Strikeouts

Trust me, I get the strikeout projection but its way too high. Ray is one of the best strikeout-pitchers in the league facing a K-heavy offense but I’m not even sure Ray will get through the fifth inning in a stadium like Globe Life Park. The Rangers are projected for more than five runs here and that means it will be tough for Ray to navigate through this lineup in such a hitter-friendly ballpark. That means he needs to get his Ks quickly and it will be tough to reach 8 Ks in just five innings.

Stack Report for MLB Main Slate: Winning Edge for July 15

This report will provide recommended DFS stacks for today’s 10-game main slate. I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

**All plays are listed in order of preference. Please check back between 5-6 PM EST as some players can receive rest days or get limited at bats especially as we get closer we get to the postseason.

Cleveland Indians Stack

vs. LHP Daniel Norris (DET): 6.30 Runs

Daniel Norris takes the mound in Cleveland this evening. He carries a 4.96 ERA, 4.62 FIP, and 4.71 ERA into tonight’s matchup. We get a nice little recipe here with his reverse splits. Left handed batters are slashing to a .367 wOBA, .540 SLG, and .343 OBP across 16 innings pitched. He has allowed 13 runs in that short span. His 40% hard contact rate and 40% pull rate combined with his shakiness to lefties can make for some easy liners to right field. Norris racked up eight strikeouts but gave up six earned runs in his last meeting with Cleveland. Cleveland batters are hitting below their season averages this month, slashing to a .309 wOBA, .154 ISO, and 88 WRC+. These numbers aren’t typically what we look for but they’re in the worst part of their slump and this is a good opportunity to bust out of it.

Preferred Stack: Roberto Perez ($2700 FD|$4100 DK), Jordan Luplow ($2500 FD|$3900 DK), Carlos Santana ($3800 FD|$5000 DK), and Francisco Lindor ($4000 FD|$4900 DK).

Colorado Rockies Stack

vs. RHP Derek Rodriguez (SFG):

Dereck Rodriguez was called up from AAA as the 26th man ahead of today’s doubleheader. He carries a 5.27 ERA, 5.57 FIP, and 5.46 SIERA across 57 innings pitched into tonight’s game. He has struggled both to righties and lefties, allowing a .338 wOBA, .462 SLG, and 46% hard contact rate. The Rockies batting averages are creeping up again on this home stand and should continue to rise this evening. They are slashing to a .349 wOBA, .193 ISO, and .457 SLG against right handed pitching recently and the studs in this lineup are coming off a rest day.

Every stack report in the industry is going to have the Giants and Rockies. Ownership almost always levitates to Coors, especially when you have Dereck Rodriguez (SFG) and Chi Chi Gonzalez (COL) pitching. Going to be a lot of ownership on both sides here ,so I am not writing up the Giants in detail for that purpose, but I’ve included my preferred stack if you decide to go with the masses tonight.

Los Angeles Dodgers Stack

vs. RHP Zach Eflin (PHI): 5.40 Runs

I imagine ownership here will be higher as well. It’s not very often we get the Dodgers so early in the evening. Zach Eflin carries a 3.78 ERA, 4.66 FIP, and 4.70 SIERA into tonight’s matchup. Left handed batters are slashing to a .357 wOBA, .544 SLG, and .333 OBP. He has allowed 22 earned runs and 11 home runs across 43 innings pitched to lefties as well. The only concern I really have with Dodgers batters here is a possible hangover from last night’s game. The Dodgers are slashing .to a 335 wOBA, .209 ISO, and 109 WRC+ vs. right handed pitching over the last month.

Preferred Stack:Max Muncy ($3800 FD|$4600 DK), Alex Verdugo ($3100 FD|$4100 DK), Cody Bellinger ($4800 FD|$5100 DK), and Joc Pederson ($2600 FD|$4200 DK).

Boston Red Sox Stack

vs. RHP Trent Thornton (TOR): 6.25 Runs

The Red Sox get another cupcake matchup against Thornton. They have faced him twice this season, his first outing in Boston when he allowed only two earned runs and a recent second outing in Toronto in which he allowed seven earned runs. This Red Sox team is hitting very well recently. They are slashing .372 wOBA, .254 ISO, and 129 WRC+. I have the same concern with the Red Sox as with the Dodgers. They played late last night but they do get the benefit at being at home. Trent Thornton has a 4.85 ERA, 4.41 FIP, and 4.75 ERA on the year. He has identical splits, allowing batters to slash to a .332 wOBA, .321 BABIP, and .444 SLG.

Preferred Stack: Rafael Devers ($4100 FD|$5500 DK), Xander Bogaerts ($4400 FD|$5300 DK), Mookie Betts ($4200 FD|$4800 DK), and Christian Vazquez ($2900 FD|$4700 DK).

Honorable Mention

Houston Astros vs. RHP Griffin Canning (LAA): 4.90 Runs

Preferred Stack: Alex Bregman ($4200 FD|$4400 DK), Yordan Alvarez ($4300 FD|$4800 DK), Michael Brantley ($3900 FD|$4000 DK), and Yuli Gurriel ($3800 FD|$4200 DK).

Toronto Blue Jays vs. RHP Rick Porcello (BOS): 4.25 Runs

Preferred Stack: Freddy Galvis ($3200 FD|$4300 DK), Cavan Biggio ($3700 FD|$4500 DK), Eric Sogard ($3300 FD|$4700 DK), and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ($3800 FD|$5300 DK).

The Yankees’ catcher has a .316 ISO versus right-handed pitchers in 2019. Sanchez also has a .359 wOBA against righties. Sanchez should take advantage and keep crushing righties in this one.

First Base –Joey Votto vs. Antonio Senzatela

FanDuel: $3,700 DraftKings: $4,300

Votto has a .330 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. And now he faces a below league average pitcher in Senzatela in Coors Field.

Second Base – Scooter Gennett vs. Antonio Senzatela

FanDuel: $3,200 DraftKings: $3,700

Scooter is in a smash spot on Sunday. If he can’t go, plugin teammate Derek Dietrich. Dietrich has a .350 ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

Third Base – Eugenio Suarez vs. Antonio Senzatela

The Reds’ third baseman has a .231 ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

Outfield – Charlie Blackmon vs. Tyler Mahle

FanDuel: $4,600 DraftKings: $5,400

Blackmon is crushing right-handed pitching this season. He has a 1.068 OPS and a .437 wOBA against righties in 2019.

Outfield – Yasiel Puig vs. Antonio Senzatela

FanDuel: $3,700 DraftKings: $5,300

Puig has a .235 ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

Outfield – Yordan Alvarez vs. Ariel Jurado

FanDuel: $4,200 Draftkings: $5,200

Alvarez owns a 1.187 OPS against right-handed pitching in 2019. He also adds a 209 wRC+ against righties.

Top Stacks

Tampa Bay Rays:

The Baltimore Orioles’ pitching staff is a mess. They own a league-high 5.78 ERA, while also allowing a league-high 172 home runs. And now the pitching staff is coming off a doubleheader on Saturday, so you know it’s going to be ugly today. The Rays, who have scored double-digit runs in two of three already this weekend from Baltimore, are in a great spot to capitalize again today as well as carry your DFS lineups into the green.

Kansas City Royals:

The Tigers’ Jordan Zimmerman will face the Royals on Sunday. Zimmerman owns a 5.34 SIERA and a 5.43 xFIP on the season so he should be no match for the Royals’ offense. The Royals could be a sneaky play on Sunday for your DFS lineups.

Milwaukee Brewers:

The Giants’ Tyler Beede has struggled in 2019. He has a 5.37 SIERA and a 5.24 xFIP this season. The San Francisco pitcher also is allowing a 41.8% hard contact rate and 1.61 HR/9. The Brewers have five regulars in their lineup that have greater than a .200 ISO versus righties. Milwaukee should have no problem putting up runs in this one and helping you win some cash in DFS.

Houston Astros:

The Astros’ offense has come alive in this series against Texas and we should expect more of the same on Sunday. The Rangers’ Ariel Jurado has a 4.73 SIERA and is allowing a 43.5% hard contact rate. Houston’s everyday lineup consists of five players with ISOs over .200 so look for another big day from the Astros’ lineup in this one. Be sure you get an Astros’ stack or two in your DFS lineups.

Los Angeles Angels:

The Angels’ offense has come out blazing here in the second half. And there is no reason to believe that stops today as they face Seattle’s Yusei Kikuchi. The Mariners’ pitcher has a 5.09 SIERA and a low 9.1% swinging-strike rate. He also is allowing 1.74 HR/9. You will want some Angels’ exposure in your DFS entries on Sunday.

Oakland Athletics:

The White Sox’s Reynaldo Lopez is a target for DFS stacking anytime he takes the bump. He has a 5.12 SIERA and is allowing flyballs at a 47.1% clip. The high amount of flyballs has led to him allowing 2.11 HR/9.

Game Stack

Cincinnati Reds @ Colorado Rockies:

Any time Las Vegas pins a 14 on a game total you are going to want some action from that game in your DFS lineup. This one is no different. Target as many Rockies and Reds in your entries as possible.

Your DFS Hitting Picks and Top Stacks for Saturday.

First Base – Daniel Murphy, Colorado Rockies

DraftKings – $4,300, FanDuel – $3,700

Tanner Roark struggles a ton against lefties and Daniel Murphy is an above average hitter and we get the Coors Field boost here for DFS Hitting.

Second Base – Whit Merrifield, Kansas City Royals

DraftKings – $4,200, FanDuel – $3,600

I love how Merrifield is hitting right now, he’s on fire. He gets a lefty, and he is a career .310 hitter vs. them. There is always a stolen base threat here also.

Shortstop – Elvis Andrus, Texas Rangers

DraftKings – $4,400, FanDuel – $3,800

Elvis Andrus is always a very solid DFS Hitting play at home and I love him more against lefties. Wade Miley isn’t going to strike out a ton, so the ball will be put in play here with the Texas air boost.

Third Base – Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies

DraftKings – $4,900, FanDuel – $4,400

Nolan Arenado at under $5,000 on DraftKings is a crime. Tanner Roark is mediocre and I think Nolan takes him deep in Coors.

Outfield – Charlie Blackmon, Colorado Rockies

DraftKings – $5,500, FanDuel – $4,600

As one of the hottest hitters in baseball, Blackmon is my favorite DFS Hitting plays on the slate. Roark cannot get lefties out and Blackmon has been very hot overall.

Outfield – Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels

DraftKings – $5,200, FanDuel – $4,800

Mike Trout against a lefty at home? Gimme gimme. Wade LeBlanc is a terrible pitcher and Mike Trout is the best player in the league. Don’t overthink it.

Outfield – Avisail Garcia, Tampa Bay Rays

DraftKings – $4,600, FanDuel – $3,200

Until the day I no longer play DFS I will play Garcia against a lefty. He is my favorite DFS Hitting one off in tournaments every time a southpaw takes the rubber against him.

DFS Hitting Stacks

1.) Colorado Rockies

Tanner Roark is very very bad against left handed bats (.290 BAA, .531 SLG). We get the Coors Field effect here and a terrible pitcher on the mound. Give me all the lefties plus Nolan Arenado. Charlie Blackmon, Daniel Murphy, and David Dahl. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be the highest scoring team on the slate.

2.) Texas Rangers

Outside of his home stadium, Wade Miley has been horrible. He holds a 4.56 ERA and a .250 BAA. He has been worse against right handed bats and that’s who I want to target with DFS Hitting Stacks. I also love Joey Gallo as he MASHES left handed pitching in Texas. Miley is going to be in for a bad night here.
