MLBDaily Fantasy Sports MLB DFS: Aces and Bases – 7/31 (FanDuel Main Slate) Antonio D'Arcangelis 3 years ago written by Antonio D'Arcangelis Today’s edition of Aces and Bases focuses ONLY on FanDuel’s nine-game MLB DFS Main Slate for 7:05PM ET, hopefully finding you some green screens!No major weather issues to keep rack of other than a few daytime/evening storms in St. Louis (which could delay the start of MIN-STL but most likely won’t get serious enough for PPD) and possible pop-ups around Atlanta.MLB DFS: The AcesTop MLB DFS Ace: Yu Darvish ($9,600)Darvish has struggled in July but he comes at a discount against a Colorado lineup that should have trouble hitting his pitch arsenal — especially the cutter. Adam Strangis points out in his must-read 7/31 Starting Rotation article that the Rockies are among the worst in the league (and registering a putrid -4.7 Pitch Value vs. wCT over the past 30 days). While the team’s swinging strike rate and K% has decreased over the past month or so, there’s stil a lot of K potential here for Darvish — who projects for the highest FD total tonight among the available SPs. I’m looking at a floor of around 30-35 FD points with upside around 45-50 if he can get the W and QS.Best GPP Value: Joe Ross ($7,400)The price on Ross, who hadn’t officially been named the SP for tonight’s game against the firesale-depleted Cubs as of 11 a.m. EST, is just way to low for his 45-50 point upside. The Cubs’ team K rate is probably on the rise, and that almost guarantees a 25-30 point floor for the Nats righty. I think both pitchers in this game can be moderately successful, but with the early absence of Ross in the available SPs (with the green box checked for “show only probably pitchers”) I could see MLB DFS ownership coming in way below what it should for good old JR. Hendricks is $200 more and doesn’t have the same upside, but I’ll use him in maybe 1/10 GPP lineups just to get some variance.Contrarian GPP Play: Aaron Nola ($11,000)While Yu Darvish is discounted on FanDuel, Nola is mispriced at just $9,700 on DK — so we could see the Phillies fireballer come in way at lower ownership than normal as the top-priced arm on FD. The strikeout potential is through the roof for Nola facing a Pirates team that struggles against his signature four-seamer, where he gets most of his Ks. On the surface, Nola’s price seems a bit high when compared to the overall numbers of both Brandon Woodruff ($200 cheaper on FD) and Darvish, so he makes for a fine MLB DFS GPP play that probably won’t eclipse 25 or 30% ownership. With some of the massive value that’s out there in our forthcoming stacks, it shouldn’t be a problem affording him.MLB DFS: The BasesTop Stack: Chicago White SoxBoth sides of this game could post monster offensive numbers, and while I like the Indians as a GPP stack, the White Sox offer the most safety in cash games and single-entry builds. Cleveland SP Triston McKenzie has some electric stuff, but he walks 6.37 batters per 9 IP and is carrying a 5.61/5.15 ERA/FIP heading into tonight’s matchup. The three most important MLB DFS hitters to roster are Tim Anderson ($3,600), Jose Abreu ($3,400) and Yoan Moncada ($2,900), who came alive last night (3-for-5 with a HR and two runs scored). Abreu got plunked in the helmet last night and that caused a near fracas, so he might be looking for revenge today with the boomstick. Keep an eye on the status of Eloy Jimenez ($3,300), who’s DTD to with a groin issue, and also consider Andrew Vaughn ($2,900).Value Stack: New York MetsThe Mets are in a great spot tonight against southpaw Wade Miley, who they faced on July 20. I always like a second crack at the same starting pitcher within a two-week time frame, and Miley wasn’t exactly boasting his best stuff in his last start on July 26 (my birthday!). They’ve added Javier Baez ($3,400) to their lineup, and he’s exactly what they need (.410 wOBA vs. LHP) to supplement the potent bats of Pete Alonso ($3,800 — and an even better wOBA vs. LHP than Baez) and the value laden J.D. Davis ($2,800) and James McCann ($2,200). Keep an eye on the status of the still-cheap Brandon Nimmo ($2700 — DTD with a hamstring “pinch”) and whatever the new lineup looks like with Baez in the mix, and consider lefty Jeff McNeil ($2,700) if he’s starting, since he’s sporting a .330 wOBA vs. LHP.Contrarian Stack: Seattle MarinersThe Mariners aren’t a bunch that I get excited about stacking too often, but given the fact that they always fly under the radar and the smash spot some of these right-handed hitters are in for this matchup, I’m getting some exposure in GPPs. They immediately stood out when I looked at team totals and matchups for tonight and I as subsequently giddy to find out they were highlighted as the primary stack in Adam’s article (this could mean BIG GREEN SCREENS for WinDaily subscribers tonight)! I’m anchoring my stacks to Mitch Haniger ($3,400) and his .380 wOBA vs. LHP over his last 108 AB. Haniger has 10 HRs in those 108 AB and will be on all my SEA stacks. After that I’ll be mixing in three-man combinations among Ty France ($2,800), Luis Torrens ($2,600), Dylan Moore ($2,600), the recently acquired Abraham Toro ($2,500) and lefties Kyle Seager ($3,100) and leadoff hitter J.P Crawford ($2,500) — who both have wOBAs north of .300 against LHP. One or more of that group might sit out tonight, so keep an eye on the starters as lineups are released. MLB MLB DFS: Aces and Bases – 4/29 DFSGhost 3 years ago written by DFSGhost Welcome to the Thursday edition of Aces and Bases. Today we have two 4 game slates to navigate through. Both slates today lack obvious pitching options. They each have 1 ace and then a bunch of blah supporting actors. If ever there was a day to either sit one out or play light, today’s that day. With that being said, let’s dig in to today’s slates!MLB DFS: The Early Slate “Aces”The pitching on today’s early slate leaves a lot to be desired. A case could be made for or against a handful of pitchersAaron Nola ($9.9k) vs. St. Louis Cardinals – Nola dominated this same team a couple of weeks ago w/ 10 k’s and a CG SO. Does that happen again today? Doubtful. But the Cardinals are a pretty right handed dominant lineup and righties are a “weakness” for them. They have a 26% k rate vs. righties this year and a wOBA of only .291. While I don’t think Nola has a game like he had last time out vs. this team, I do think he pitches well enough to bring some value to his salary.Jordan Montgomery ($8.1k) vs. Baltimore Orioles – The Orioles have a 27% k rate vs. lefties this season and only a .148 ISO. Montgomery was successful against the Orioles earlier this month and I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be again today. The one thing that is giving me caution with Montgomery is that he’s giving up a ton of hard contact this season. To the tune of 35.7% . Highest of any pitcher on the slate. Tread lightly with this one..Kwang-hyun Kim ($7.5k) vs. Philadelphia Phillies – Guess we have ourselves a pitcher’s duel in St. Louis today. Kim showed some serious upside last week with 8 k’s in only 5 innings vs. the Reds, while limiting them to only 1 run. There’s a small sample size on Kim this year but so far he’s pitched to a 2.82 xfip with a 14.4% SSR. The Phillies are k’ing 29% of the time vs. lefties this season. Kim’s ability to miss bats + the Phillies k’ing a ton vs. lefties could equal a nice success story. Similar to Montgomery though, the contact that he’s giving up tends to be hard contact. 33% for the year. Tread lightly with this one too…MLB DFS: The Early Slate BatsNew York Yankees vs. Jorge Lopez – Could the Yankees be heating up? They’ve scored 12 runs over the last 2 games. And they get to face a pitcher today that’s already given up 6 homers in only 17 innings. Over the past week some of the Yankees bats are really hot. Giancarlo Stanton ($3.4k) and Aaron Judge ($3.5k) both have wOBA’s over .400 in the past week and wRC’s over 5. 1-4 in this lineup should be popular this afternoon. Houston Astros vs. Yusei Kikuchi – If for some reason you are fading the Yankees today, the Astros present a good secondary option. Kikuchi hasn’t been missing bats. He has a 10.9% swinging strike rate which is second lowest on the slate. Second only to Lopez. He’s also given up 5 homers in only 23 innings of work. His 2 main pitches are the fastball and slider. I’m going to focus on the Astros success vs. the slider. Jose Altuve ($3.8k) and Alex Bregman ($3.6k) both have hard hit rates greater than 50% vs. this pitch and ISO’s over .230. Both of those guys will be main targets for me. This is an ugly day slate. I anticipate value opening up today so make sure to keep an eye on lineups. MLB DFS: The Main Slate AceTrevor Bauer ($11k) vs. Milwaukee Brewers – Bauer will be chalk tonight. On some nights, you just need to eat because there’s either no other option, or limited options. Tonight is the night to eat the chalk. Bauer is far and away the best pitcher on the slate with a matchup against a team that has a 27% k rate against his handedness. Really don’t need to dig in much to this one.Kyle Gibson ($9.2k) vs. Boston Red Sox – If you take out his first game of the season, Gibson has been one of the better pitchers in the game. He’s only given up 2 ER in his last 27 IP. While is xFIP is more than a run higher than his ERA, it’s still very respectable at 3.67. The majority of the power from the Red Sox comes from the right side of the plate. Gibson’s main pitch to righties is his sinker and the throws it nearly 44% of the time. Martinez, Bogaerts, and Hernandez all have low ISO’s vs. this pitch. When you switch to the left side, one of his main pitches is the changeup. Only Devers profiles well against this pitch. I could see Gibson continuing his solid performance tonight.These are really the only 2 pitchers I’m considering tonight. The only other person I’d even remotely consider is Martin Perez ($6K) vs. the Texas Rangers. MLB DFS: The Main Slate BatsLos Angeles Dodgers vs. Eric Lauer – Lauer makes his season debut today. Because of that, I don’t think he goes very deep. The good news for us? On the season, the Brewers bullpen has a 4.52 xfip. So we’d be going with a pitcher who had a 4.92 xfip from 2019-2020 to a bullpen that has struggled this year. The current lineup of the Dodgers has a .202 ISO and a .327 wOBA over the last couple of season to lefties. Betts ($4.4k), Seagar ($3.9k), Turner ($4k), and Smith ($3.2k) all have wOBA’s over .300 vs. lefties since 2019. Love the spot here for the Dodgers.Atlanta Braves vs. Adbert Alzolay – Alzolay hasn’t pitched as bad as his ERA looks. His xFIP is a full 2 runs lower than his ERA. This is just a bad matchup for him tonight. His main pitch is his 94 mph fastball. Let’s look at what the Braves hitters have done to this pitch if we look back all the way to 2016. Ronald Acuna ($4.3k) .289 ISO and a 57.5% hard hit rate, Freddie Freeman ($4k) .221 ISO and 51.72% hard hit rate, Marcell Ozuna ($2.6k) .269 ISO and 45.24% hard hit rate, and Ozzie Albies ($3k) .391 ISO and 48.28% hard hit rate. The backend of that stack is cheap. MLB DFS: The Main Slate Wrap UpLike pitching, I really only have 2 spots I’m in love with the hitting matchup. This too is an ugly slate and I’m already looking forward to tomorrow’s slate. Despite the limited number of games, there are plenty of interesting pitching options for Daily Fantasy purposes. Below are four pitching recommendations for the 8/8 MLB DFS slate. Aaron Nola vs. San Francisco Giants DraftKings – $10,600 FanDuel – $10,800The Phillies’ Aaron Nola might be priced a bit on the high side for this 8/8 MLB DFS slate. But it is hard to argue with his floor. He owns a 26.9% K% and faces a Giants’ offense with a sub-par .138 ISO. With the lack of firepower on the Giants’ side, Nola’s blowup chances are pretty low here, making him an excellent cash game option for Thursday. Chris Sale vs. Los Angeles Angels DraftKings – $10,000 FanDuel – $9,600 Sale’s 4.68 ERA is tough to get past for this 8/8 MLB DFS slate. But his 3.06 xFIP and 3.10 SIERA paints a better picture of the type of hurler he is. Regression should be in his favor today. And his strikeout upside with a 34.6% K% always puts him in the player pool. Today should be no different, especially with the suppressed price on FanDuel. Dallas Keuchel vs. Miami Marlins DraftKings – $8,000 FanDuel – $8,700No one will ever mistake Dallas Keuchel as a sexy DFS play but on this particular day, he should get some consideration. He has an excellent matchup against the Miami Marlins and their lowly .145 ISO. While his upside will be limited by his pitch to contact approach, Keuchel’s a very safe, cheap pitching option whose floor should provide DFS players comfort on this 8/8 MLB DFS slate. Madison Bumgarner vs. Philadelphia Phillies DraftKings – $9,000 FanDuel – $8,300The Giants’ Madison Bumgarner may not be the dominant pitcher he once was, but the southpaw continues to thrive at home in 2019. In San Francisco this season, Bumgarner has a 25.5% K% while holding his opponents to a .236/.274/.377 slash line. With the Phillies owning just a .155 ISO and a 86 wRC+ on the road, Bumgarner’s success at home should continue on this 8/8 MLB DFS slate. Monkey Knife Fight Pitching Props Let’s double dip with a Nola and Bumgarner prop play here. An 11.5 goal on the Count Ks contest seems a little low for the duo. THANK YOU FOR READING. MLB DFS Pitching/Monkey Knife Fight Picks for July 13 Mark Paquette 5 years ago written by Mark Paquette Oh Saturdays how I love thee, and for DFS Pitching. We have an ace or two on the mound on this Saturday Funday. The crazy, split times of the games leads to some screwy DFS slates. DFS Pitching Upper-Tier ArmsAaron Nola, Nationals at Phillies ($10,300 FD, $10,300 DK): After a relatively slow start, he has rounded into the form that made him an NL Cy Young Award finalist last season. He is 2-1 with a 0.61 ERA over his past four starts, locating his fastball like he had in the past. As is his custom, he has been terrific at Citizens Bank Park this year. He has a 2.85 ERA at home as compared to 5.05 on the road. What makes this even more impressive is that Citizens Bank Park is an hitter’s park. This guy is an ace in the making and is on my short-list of cash DFS Pitching picks today.Trevor Bauer, Twins at Indians ($10,500 FD, $10,800 DK): Bauer finished the first half strong, going 4-0 with a 2.90 ERA in his last six starts. With the Indians losing last night, look for this ace to feel some extra responsibility on his shoulders and and pitch a great game. Much like the other ace mentioned in Nola, this ace is a cash-game consideration in my DFS Pitching book.Sign up NOW for WIN DAILY Premium Gold right here! Projections, weather reports, wagering info, 24/7 expert chats and more!DFS Pitching Middle-Tier Arms Julio Teheran, Braves at Padres ($8,000 FD, $6,600 DK): That price on DK makes him an almost automatic SP 2. On FD, he is likely GPP-only for me as I like the upper-tier DFS Pitching arms better. Teheran’s struggles ended at the same time the first half did. Six scoreless innings against the Marlins on July 5th coincided with improved command of his fastball.Brendan McKay, Rays at Orioles ($7,300 FD, $9,000 DK): Yikes, the difference in the DFS Pitching pricing certainly jumps out at you right away huh? McKay is a cash-game consideration for me on FD while GPP-only on DK with that price sticker. In two big league starts, McKay has given up just three runs and has allowed eight baserunners in 11 innings pitched. The two-way prospect is one of the jewels of the Rays’ organiation and has a world of talent so you might as well jump on him in the DFS world while he is still inexpensive. DFS Pitching Bargain-Basement ArmZac Gallen, Mets at Marlins ($7,000 FD, $6,900 DK): This very talented youngster has command that far surpasses his youth. He knows how to pitch and spots he stuff well. The rookie right-hander, who is an ace in the making, makes his fourth big league start, and he seeks his first win. Helping his cause is the fact that the Mets are a complete mess right now. Gallen has logged 12 innings, and he has averaged 12 K/9 in a small sample size. A lengthy rain delay ended his outing after only 2 innings in his last start. He is a DFS Pitching GPP-only choice for me but with big upside considering his opponent and the park he is pitching in. MLB DFS Pitching/MKF Picks 7/7- Ace Right-Hander Nola Mark Paquette 5 years ago written by Mark Paquette The last Sunday of MLB’s first half is upon us and we have one of the hottest pitchers toeing the rubber in Phillie ace right-hander Aaron Nola. There is a full slate of 15 games on the DFS schedule so lets jump into it. Upper-Tier Ace ArmsAaron Nola, Phillies at Mets ($9,700 FD, $10,600 DK): A cash-game consideration on FD on with that price while probably only a GPP play on DK in the DFS world. The Phillie ace right-hander is red-hot right now. He has allowed just one earned run in 23 innings over his last three starts, striking out 28 and walking five. The ace right-hander has breathed life into a generally ho-hum ballclub as they enter the second half. Pitching against the hapless Mets is a good matchup to see if the right-hander has truly taken a step up to the next level. Patrick Corbin, Royals at Nationals ($10,500 FD, $10,900 DK): The prices on the sites scare me off of DFS cash-games and make him GPP-only for me. Corbin will end the first half for the Nationals. He is coming off an emotional, rain-filled appearance in his last start following the death of his friend, Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs. He threw seven innings of one-run ball with 7 K’s while wearing Skaggs’ jersey as a tribute. Following ace right-hander Max Scherzer’s gem on Saturday will be a tough act to follow, but the change of pace may keep the Royal batters off-balance. Price will try to send the Red Sox off into the All-Star game break on a high note. Price has been pitching well for the Red Sox, being a much needed innings eater, going six innings or more in five of his last seven starts. Going against a weak Tiger lineup should play into Price’s strengths. The veteran lefty walked a season-high four batters in his most recent start in Toronto, but still made the right pitches at the right times to earn his sixth win of the season. Dallas Keuchel, Marlins at Braves ($7,300 FD, $8,600 DK): Another DFS cash-game option, especially on FD because of his deep discount. Keuchel is getting stretched out, going seven innings in his last start against Philadelphia. Keuchel has steadily improved as he’s progressed through his first three appearance of 2019. He showed better command of his changeup and slider in his last start.Bargain-Basement Arm Tyler Mahle, Indians at Reds ($7,000 FD, $7,800 DK): Coming off an excellent start to his last appearance against the Brewers, Mahle looks to keep improving. Likely the second best pitcher on the Reds staff behind only ace right-hander Luis Castillo, Mahle faces the Indians. He pitched into the seventh inning, lasting 95 pitches against the Brewers on Monday. Mahle gave up a leadoff homer and then was excellent until a late rally spoiled his outing in an 8-6 Reds loss. He hopes to earn the trust again to stay out late in the game again.
