Welcome to this week's edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   We have a nice-sized 8-game slate of NHL DFS tonight. We have some glaring mismatches tonight between teams jockeying for playoff position and teams jockeying for Conner Bedard. This should be a fun, high-scoring night. Lock is an hour earlier than normal tonight so you'll want to make sure you're dialed into that.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Petr Mrazek vs. Nashville – This Blackhawks/Predators game tonight will be a battle between two teams that have given up on the 2022/2023 campaign. Both have traded away key offensive assets and are throwing out questionable NHL lineups. Mrazek has been playing some solid goalie. He's been in double-digit DK points in 5 of his last 6 games and this is a game he should excel in. Mrazek is never a safe goalie, but I really like him tonight.

Juuse Saros vs. Chicago - If you want to go with the safer pla...

Welcome to Wednesday's edition of Between the Benches.   A large Tuesday slate leaves us with just 4 games of NHL DFS tonight. Those 4 games however pack a massive punch and we should see a healthy amount of scoring.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Phoenix Copley ($8.2K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. San Jose Sharks – Have the Kings found their goalie? It sure seems like it. The 30-year old netminder has been playing some exceptional hockey over the last few weeks. Since December 6, Copley has played 13 games and has won 11 of them. His 2.56 GAA is the best of his career. He also gets a favorable matchup tonight vs. a Sharks team that is just 2-3-2 in their last 7 games. This is a great spot for Copley to continue his stellar play.

Jack Campbell ($8.2k DK/$7.5k FD) vs. Anaheim Ducks– This is more of a testament to the matchup than it is to the goalie. The Ducks are a mess on both sides of the ice and o...

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  With just 5 games on tap tonight, our options are going to be somewhat limited. We also have a handful of teams playing on the tail end of a back-to-back. That said, it should be a fun slate .

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Matt Murray ($8.1K DK/$8.4k FD) vs. Calgary Flames – The Flames showed last night that they are definitely not the same Flames team of years past. Against a poor defensive Blue Jackets team, they mustered just 1 goal, leaving plenty of NHL DFS lineups to rot. Tonight, we'll use the Flames a bit differently. We're going to attack them with a goalie.

Matt Murray is coming into this game off arguably the game of his career. Against the powerful Stars team, he stopped all 44 shots on his way to a 43 DK performance. I'm not calling for a repeat performance, but we know he has upside and won't break the bank at $8.1k on DK. Murray has been strong all year ...

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   I’ll be focusing on tonight’s 3-game main slate of NHL DFS on DraftKings and FanDuel.  A couple of the games tonight should be higher scoring, while the game between the Blues and Blackhawks has the makings of a snooze fest.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Jordan Binnington ($8.1K DK/$7.1k FD) vs. Chicago Blackhawks – I’ll be targeting both goalies in this one as neither team has really been scoring.  First I’ll look to target Binnington.  The Blues are favored here and I do expect them to get the W.  The Blackhawks' offense has just been absolutely anemic.  They’ve scored just 6 goals in their last 5 games for an average of just 1.20 goals per game.  That’s pretty bad.

With Binnington, we also have a goalie who’s starting to play a little bit better.  He’s been in double-digit DK points in 4 straight games...

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL DFS slate on Fanduel and DraftKings.  Tonight we have a smaller than usual 5 game slate.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

Goaltending

Jacob Markstrom ($8.5k DK/$8.4k FD) vs. Seattle Kraken – The Calgary Flames get to take on the Seattle Kraken tonight and because of it, I’m all over Markstrom.  Markstrom is definitely priced up for the match-up, but he’s facing a team that’s been scoring just 2.5 goals per game over the past month.  If we look at the Kraken’s season as a whole, the past month is pretty indicative of their offensive prowess.

Markstrom is playing pretty well as he’s won 6 of his last 7 games, only allowing more than 2 goals once in the game that he lost.  I’ll add though that there is a lower ceiling for him tonight as the Kraken are only registering 29 shots per game.  While there is a ceili...

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  I’m Jared and I’ll be your host.  Tonight we have a nice sized 8 game slate where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL slate on Fanduel and Draftkings.

Before we dive in I want to highlight some terms you’ll see in my article that may be foreign to you:

  • Corsi – Any shot attempt (goals, shots on net, misses and blocks) outside of the shootout
  • Even Strength – Play where both teams have the same number of players (including goalies) on the ice. Includes 5v5, 4v4, 3v3
  • Power Play – Play where the team has more players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 5v4, 5v3, 4v3
  • Penalty Kill – Play where the team has fewer players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 4v5, 3v4, 3v5

Goaltending

Jacob Markstrom($7.9k DK/$7.9k FD) vs. Winnipeg Jets – Jets are a team that have some fire power, but recently they’ve been shooting blanks.  Over the past 2 weeks the Jets have one of the worst shooting percentages of any team on tonight’s slate.  It’s sitting at just 5.37%.  They’re firing at will as they have been averaging over 34 shots per game during that stretch but nothing is finding the back of the net.

The Jets have been averaging just 1.86 goals per game over their past 7 games.  In Markstrom we have an elite goalie who has a 1.73 GAA on the year and a .940 save %.  All signs point to Markstrom having a solid night and being one of the best values in net.

Ville Husso ($7.8k DK/$7.8k FD) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – Husso has only played in 2 games this season.  1 game he was brilliant, the other game he was average.  Tonight he faces a Blue Jackets team on the tail end of a back to back set.

They’ve been averaging around 33 shots per game over the past 2 week so we know there’s a good chance that Husso gets some volume tonight.  If he plays like he did in his first start with that type of volume he stands a good chance of having a solid night tonight.

Goalie is a train wreck in my opinion tonight.  Outside of Markstrom I have little comfort in any goalie.  Normally I’d put a goalie vs. the Canadiens, but have no interest in DeSmith.  You could make a case for Cal Petersen but he’s more than I’d like to pay for a goalie.

Stacks

Detroit 1 (Larkin/Bertuzzi/Raymond) + Seider or DeKeyser

If you have followed me this season, you know my affinity for the Red Wings.  They are a high risk, high reward type of team.  Tonight I love the spot for them.  The Sabres as a team are a mess defensively.  They’re giving up more than 4 goals per game on average in their last 7 games.  As per usual with the Red Wings, Larkin and Raymond are my priority.

The two of them have combined for 6 goals and 12 points over their past 5 games.  They also play together on the top power play unit.  For this stack, I’d also consider adding in Seider.  While his price has crept up there, he plays with Larkin and Raymond on the top power play also.  He’s also getting more than 4 shots plus blocks in his last 5 games.

Los Angeles 1 (Kempe/Arvidsson/Kopitar) + Roy

The Kings have been struggling of late.  Over the past 2 weeks they’ve only scored 9 goals in their 5 games.  There’s no better slump buster than the Ottawa Senators.  This is a great bounce back spot for the Kings.  While they haven’t been scoring much of late, the top line is where I want to stay tonight.  Kempe and Arvidsson are my priorities here as they are the ones playing the best of late.

Over their last 5 games they each have individual corsi’s of at least 25.  Between the 2 of them they have 20 high danger chances over that stretch too.  At some point, they’re going to break back through and it should be tonight.  Kempe, Arvidsson, and Roy all play together on the top power play as well so they’ll correlate throughout the game.

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby/Guentzel/Kapanen) + Letang

The Canadiens are another team that is an absolute mess.  Over their last 7 games the are giving up more than 4.2 goals per game and over 37 shots.  Teams are just firing at will against them.  The Sabres had 39 shots and 4 goals against them last night.  There’s no reason to think that the Penguins can’t replicate that tonight.

I love both the top lines for Pittsburgh tonight but my preference is the top due to how well Guentzel has been playing.  Over his past 5 games he has 25 scoring chances, with 15 being considered high danger.   My priority here would be Guentzel and Kapanen.  Crosby is starting to heat up a bit as he has 11 shots over his past 3 games. That said, $7.1k on DK is still a lot to pay for someone that hasn’t been scoring.

Other stacks (Both top lines for Edmonton, Pittsburgh 2, STL PP1, Col 2, CGY 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Cale Maker – Colorado Avalanche
  • Roman Josi – Nashville Predators
  • Jakob Chychrun – Arizona Coyotes
  • Esa Lindell – Dallas Stars
  • Kris Russell – Edmonton Oilers
  • Vladislav Gavrikov – Columbus Blue Jackets

Summary

We may see some sloppy hockey tonight as nearly half the teams playing tonight played last night.  Sloppy normally means some extra goals.  Markstrom is my top goalie tonight and it’s not really close.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

NHL Betting Picks Monday 5/3

Welcome to Keith's NHL Betting Picks Monday 5/3. The Model took a break yesterday as there was only 1 game played with the Lightning beating the Red Wings 2-1. No value considering the Lightning were around a -300 favorite after losing to the Red Wings on Friday. The good news in the NHL blessed us with a monster Monday slate of games.

We have 14 games on the NHL slate tonight. Let's take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentages for the teams playing today.

NHL Betting Picks Monday 4/26

Welcome to Keith's NHL Betting Picks Monday 4/26. The Model is finally back after a long weekend at grad school! A solid weekend of hockey with a lot of goals yesterday. A couple picks I had Wed/Thurs that didn't hit (Rangers -1.5 and Isles/Caps over 5.5), hit with ease in their next matchups on Fri/Sat. If the research is there and it didn't hit the first time, chances are it will hit in the rematch. Flyers had a great comeback last night that salvaged an over that looked dead with 2 minutes left in the game.

We have 8 games on the NHL slate tonight. Let's take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentages for the teams playing today.

NHL Betting Picks Thursday 3/11

Welcome to Keith's NHL Betting Picks Thursday 3/11. Just how we drew it up, a 2-0 bounce back night for The Model. Full disclosure, when it was announced Kings goalie Cal Petersen was put on the COVID Protocol List and they were starting someone who hasn't played an NHL game since 2014 (!!) I almost jumped ship and hedged with the Ducks. But I rode with Troy Grosenick to the promised land. Montreal also easily took care of the Canucks, both games won 5-1, and now we are on to Thursday.

We have 10 games on the slate tonight let's take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentage for the teams playing tonight.

NHL Betting Picks Wednesday 3/10

Welcome to Keith's NHL Betting Picks Wednesday 3/10. Last night was a tough one for The Model. A donut. An 0-fer. Losing all 3 picks. It happens, it's hockey, we move on. Still highly profitable this year and we will stick to the process. The Lightning and Flyers did end up winning, just both in the overtime period which meant losers on both of those bets.

We have 5 games tonight let's take a look at the profitability and over win percentage for the teams playing tonight.

Wild Puck Line (+1.5, -286) over the Golden Knights

Kings Money Line (-121) over the Ducks

Canadiens Puck Line (-1.5, +170) over the Canucks

Keep an eye out for Starting Goalies tonight. We have a few games here where it is the second of a back-to-back between evenly matched teams so we might try to take the loser of the first game as that has been relatively profitable trend this season.
