Let’s dig in and see if we can find some touchdowns!

Monkey Knife Fight Touchdown Dance

Jonathan Taylor vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Colts need to win today.  If they win, they’re in the playoffs.  They have gotten to this point thanks to the breakout performance of second-year running back, Jonathan Taylor.  If you’ve followed any of my writing this year you know of my affinity for Taylor.  He should absolutely feast today against a Jaguars defense that gave up 4 rushing touchdowns last week against the Patriots.  No offense to guys like Stevenson and Harris, but if they can each get 2 touchdowns against the Jaguars then Taylor should be able to get at least one today.

Taylor had a string of 10 consecutive weeks earlier this year where he found the end zone.  After failing to score in week 16, he got back on the saddle last week vs. the Raiders.  This week he’ll make it 2 consecutive weeks with a touchdown.  He’s currently sitting at 18 rushing touchdowns on the year.  Can he make it to 20 today?  Confidence Level of at least 1 – High

D’Onta Foreman vs. Houston Texans

With Derrick Henry officially ruled out for the week, it’s back to being D’Onta Foreman time!  And I expect Foreman to take full advantage of what could be his final opportunity to shine.  Foreman has a touchdown in 3 of his last 4 games and should be able to make it 4 out of 5.  The Texans have been brutal against the run this year.

Last week was the first time since Week 11 against this same Titans team that they didn’t give up a rushing touchdown to a running back.  Prior to last week, they had given up 9 rushing touchdowns in just 5 weeks.  I’m looking for Foreman to feast today and get to the end zone at least once.  Confidence Level – High

Justin Jefferson vs. Chicago Bears

Last week I made it to a point to add in a Wide Receiver to the Monkey Knife Fight Touchdown Dance and was successful with Kupp (didn’t really go out on a limb).  This week the receiver I’m looking towards is Justin Jefferson.  Even with Thielen in the mix the majority of the year, Jefferson has been the guy in Minnesota.  The sophomore wide receiver has set career highs in just about every stat.

The Bears have been very susceptible to giving up touchdowns this year to wideouts as they have given up the second-most in the NFL at 20.  With Jefferson oh so close to getting double-digit touchdowns for the first time in his career, I expect the return of Kirk Cousins to get him there.  Confidence Level – Highish.

Touchdown Dance Wrap Up

Other guys I also like this week for the Monkey Kife Fight Touchdown Dance are Darnell Mooney vs. Minnesota and Devonta Freeman vs. Pittsburgh.

Welcome to the Week 17 edition of The Inside Look for the 2021 NFL season.  This will be a data-driven article and will go under the hood to see if the box scores tell the whole story about what transpired during the weekend.   My goal here will be to either calm your nerves about a player that may have underperformed or cause you to rethink some of the spots you may have taken.

Outside of the MNF game, we have a pretty good sense of what transpired this past weekend.

Let’s dig into the data!

Wide Receiver Targets

Before we dig in to individual player performances I wanted to take a moment to talk about why we focus so heavily on Targets.  Targets equal opportunities and in fantasy opportunity more often than creates production.  The more targets that a player gets the better chance there is that the player will return on value.

The leader in targets yesterday was Mr. Davante Adams.  For the third time in 3 weeks, Adams had at least 13 targets.  His 14 targets this weekend were the most he’s had since week 14 vs. the Chiefs.  Adams has just been a model of consistency of late.  His 136 yards marked the fifth time in six games where he exceeded 100 yards receiving.  Aaron Rodgers has hinted that this may be it for him.  If it is, the Rodgers/Adams combo will be sorely missed as it’s been one of the most fun combos to watch.

Last week it was Tee Higgins, this week it was Ja’Marr Chase.  Chase had himself a day yesterday, catching 11 of his 12 targets for a whopping 266 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The season high 266 yards were the second time that Chase has reached at least 200 yards in a game this season.

His 11 receptions were also a season high for Chase.  With Chase having 12 targets this weekend, it marked the fifth time this season where he had double digit targets.  He’ll look to keep padding his rookie stats next weekend against their state rivals the Browns.

Another guy that had a splendid day in week 17 was Amon-Ra St. Brown.  St. Brown has seen a steady progression in play all season.  He now has 5 straight weeks of at least 11 targets.  His 111 yards this weekend marked the first time in his young career that he reached the coveted 100 yard mark.  While Chase is the lock to win the rookie of the year award, St. Brown has put together a very impressive rookie campaign.  He’ll look to close it out next week vs. the Packers.

Running Back Targets

This was as boring of a week for pass catching running backs as we’ve had all year.  Not a single running back had double digit targets and none had more than 70 receiving yards.  That said, we’ll still want to highlight at least one person and that will be Alvin Kamara.  This wasn’t quite the season that Kamara had envisioned.

He’s on pace to have career lows in receptions, receiving yards, and his lowest rushing output since his rookie year.  He did however have a pretty good week 17.  For the first time since week 7, he had a receiving touchdown.  His 68 receiving yards were also the most he’s had since then.  Up next week is a matchup vs. a poor Falcons defense.  He’ll look to end the regular season on a positive note next week vs. the Falcons.

Tight End Targets

With Chris Godwin out and Antonio Brown leaving mid game, Rob Gronkowski became a favorite weapon for Tom Brady.  After averaging 7.5 targets per game in the last 4 games, Gronk reached double digit targets in week 17 with 10.  It marked the second time in the last 3 games he had double digit targets.

Of the 10 targets, he was able to catch 7 of them for 115 yards.  The 115 yards was just the second time all year he was able to reach the 100 yard mark.  Although he had a solid target and receiving game, this is now the fourth straight week with no touchdowns.  He’ll look to end that streak next week vs. the Panthers.

The only other tight end to have double digit targets in week 17 was Dalton Schultz of the Dallas Cowboys.  Schultz’ 10 targets marked the first time this season he had double digit targets.  His targets have been increasing over the last few weeks as he’s had 8, then 9, and now 10 targets.

While he had a ton of targets this weekend, he did little with them as he only caught 6 of them for 54 yards and zero touchdowns.  Does Dak target him again this much next week vs. the Eagles in a prime-time game on Saturday night?

Quarterback Target Share

I know Mike Glennon is tops on the list in terms of using his running backs in the passing scheme in week 17, at least in terms of %.  We’ll get to him much later.  To start I want to focus on Jalen Hurts.  Hurts has really become a fan of throwing the ball to Dallas Goedert.  This week Goedert was his most used pass catcher.  Last week Goedert was his second most used receiver.  Week in and week out Hurts’ favorite targets are Goedert and Smith.

This week was a very different feel for the Baltimore Ravens.  On most Sundays Mark Andrews is far and away the most targeted guy on the Ravens.  This week, not so much.  Andrews was the third most targeted pass catcher for the Ravens in week 17.  Huntley looked more often for his wide receivers and unfortunately, it wasn’t overly successful as the Ravens lost another one and will need a miracle next week to squeak into the playoffs.

Running Back Touches

Rashaad Penny is on a heater folks.  Over the last 4 weeks Penny has games of 137 rushing yards, 135, and 170!  Going into week 17, Penny hadn’t had more than 17 carries.  This week he ended up with 25 carries.  The Seahawks had a dominant performance yesterday vs. the Lions and Penny was a huge part of it.  He’ll look to close out a disappointing Seahawks season next week vs. a tough Cardinals team.

Jonathan Taylor has more games over 100 yards rushing this year than he has less than it.  He’s put together just an amazing season.  On 20 carries this weekend, he was able to gain over 100 yards rushing for the fourth consecutive week and seventh out of his last 8 games.

After disappointing his fans last weekend, he was able to find the end zone once again in week 17.  That makes it 17 rushing touchdowns on the year.  He’ll look to add to his already impressive sophomore season next weekend vs. the Jaguars.

If you’re confused with how the Titans use their backs, you’re not alone.  After getting 22 carries in week 15, Foreman dropped to just 9 carries in week 16.  In week 17 he had a season high 26.  For the third time in the last 5 weeks, Foreman broke the 100 yard mark and had a season high 132 rushing yards.  Up next week is a matchup vs. the Texans and your guess is as good as mine as to who will get the bulk of the carries.

Playbook

The ‘Playbook’ as I like to call it shows a breakdown of the play splits that teams used this past weekend.

We need to talk about he game that Mike Glennon of the New York Giants had.  Thanks to a handful of sacks, Glennon had an NFL record low -10 yards passing.  That’s not a mark on your screen.  It’s really a negative sign next to the yardage.  Yesterday’s performance by Glennon will go down as one of the worst individual performances of all time.  There’s a reason the Giants ran the ball 80% of the time yesterday…

If your fantasy team was relying on Dalvin Cook to guide you to your season long fantasy championship yesterday, sorry.  With the Vikings not being able to get anything going on the ground, they passed the ball 80% of the time.  That didn’t work much either as Sean Mannion couldn’t get much going.  The Vikings will hope to get Kirk Cousins back for their week 18 matchup against the Bears.

Inside Look Wrap Up

While Joe Burrow didn’t throw for over 500 yards again this week, he did come close.  Those in their championship games that had Burrow this weekend should be hopefully feel good about their chances to raise their trophies.  This was another fun week of football, as long as your name was not Antonio Brown (I truly hope he gets the help he needs).  In week 17 we saw just 5 guys get over 100 yards receiving, compared to 11 last week.  We saw a lot more success on the ground though this weekend as 7 guys had over 100 yards rushing.  We’re almost at the finish line folks!

Let’s dig in and see if we can find some touchdowns!

Touchdown Dance

Ronald Jones vs. New York Jets

Ronald Jones stands as good of a chance of scoring a touchdown today as anyone on the early slate.  No team in the NFL has given up more rushing touchdowns this season than the Jets as they’ve given up 22.  The next closest team is Houston with 18.  Even if we dive into a smaller subset, the Jets have given up 5 over their 4 last games.  Running backs have their way with the Jets and Ronald Jones will also have his way with the Jets.

Jones filled in admirably last week for Fournette with 65 rushes and 1 touchdown against a slightly tougher opponent in the Panthers.  With Fournette on IR, Jones will get the bulk of the carries again today and should find the end zone in back-to-back weeks, helping us get our first touchdown in the Monkey Knife Fight Touchdown Dance contest.  Confidence Level – High

Jonathan Taylor vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Jonathan Taylor had somewhat of a disappointing week in week 16.  Although he rushed for over 100 yards for the third straight week, he failed to find the end zone for the first time since week 3.  In week 17 he gets a great shot of bouncing back against a Raiders team that has been below average against running backs all year.

On the year they’ve given up 14 rushing touchdowns to running backs and 5 over the last 4 weeks.  They’ve gotten progressively worse over the course of the year.  Only once over the past 6 weeks have they gone a game without giving up a rushing touchdown to a running back.  Jonathan Taylor should have no issue finding the end zone in this one.  Confidence Level – High

Cordarrelle Patterson vs. Buffalo Bills

A once stout defense against the run, the Bills have really been struggling to try to contain running backs.  They started out the year not giving up a single rushing touchdown to a running back until week 6 against the Titans.  Since then it’s been all downhill.  Over the last 6 weeks, they’ve given up a total of 9.   In that stretch, they have games where they gave up 4 and 3 touchdowns.  I’m going to attack them today with a running back that I’ve gone to in the past, Cordarrelle Patterson.

The ninth year back has really had a breakout season.  He’s set career highs in both rushing touchdowns and rushing yards.  He’s had rushing touchdowns in 3 of his last 5 games.  Patterson is a risk because he doesn’t get a whole lot of volume, but where he does get volume is in the red zone and that’s extremely important here.  Over the last 3 weeks, he’s had 13 red zone rushes.  If the Falcons get in the red zone today, they’ll hand it off to Patterson. Confidence Level – Medium

Cooper Kupp vs. Buffalo Bills

I normally keep it to running backs in the Monkey Knife Fight Touchdown Dance because their volume is easier to predict at times.  That said, Cooper Kupp is in an absolute smash spot today.  The Ravens’ secondary has been decimated by injuries all season and the results have shown it.  Over the last 4 weeks, the Ravens have given up a league-high 8 touchdowns to wide receivers.  That’s tops in the NFL over that stretch.  During that stretch of 4 games, they’ve given up multiple touchdowns to receivers 3 times.

Kupp just stands out so much here.  Even last week in what was considered a subpar week for Stafford and Kupp, he still had over 100 receiving yards.  Last week was the first time since week 12 he failed to find the endzone.  I just don’t see a scenario where he goes a second straight week without a touchdown.  Confidence Level – High

Other guys I also like this week are Davante Adams vs. Minnesota and David Montgomery vs. New York

Welcome to the Week 15 edition of The Inside Look for the 2021 NFL season.  This will be a data driven article and will go under the hood to see if the box scores tell the whole story about what transpired during the weekend.   My goal here will be to either calm your nerves about a player that may have underperformed or cause you to rethink some of the spots you may have taken.

Unlike weeks past, we still have 2 games to play today and 2 tomorrow.  Thanks COVID!

Let’s dig in to the data!

If you have ask most Ravens fans, Marquise Brown had 1 less target than he should have had in Week 15.  Many camera angles show him wide open in the end zone when they went for 2.  That said, he still had a great weekend in terms of targets. No one in the NFL had more targets than Brown did this weekend.  Brown was targeted 14 times this.  It’s not all rosy picture though for Brown.

Even though he was able to catch 10 of his targets, he went for only 43 yards passing.  After getting 116 yards vs. the Vikings in week 9 Brown now has 6 consecutive weeks of less than 60 receiving yards and also hasn’t found the end zone since Week 7 vs. the Bengals.  If the Ravens have any hope of beating the Bengals next weekend they’ll need a bounce back game from Brown.

While Brown had a down week, Tyreek Hill showed the world why he is one of the most dynamic players in the game, albeit frustrating players as well.  Hill had gone 9 consecutive games without breaking the 100 yard mark.  This week he broke it with some room to spare.  Hill was able to catch 12 of his 13 week 15 targets for 148 receiving yards.  He was also able to find the end zone for the first time since week 10.  Hill and his teammates look to keep the good times rolling against the Steelers in Week 16.

Brandon Cooks, have yourself a day!  For the second consecutive week Cooks had double digit targets and over 100 yards receiving.  With opening week starter Tyrod Taylor down with an injury, Cooks and Davis Mills have really found a rhythm together and it’s been somewhat fun to watch.  The two of them also connected for 2 touchdowns this weekend.  Up next week is a much tougher assignment in the Chargers.  Can they keep connecting like they have been?

Running Back Targets

Penn State alum Saquon Barkley led all backs this weekend with 8 targets.  The good news?  He was able to catch 4 of them.  The bad news?  He did absolutely nothing with the targets as he finished with just 24 receiving yards.  There’s no other way to describe his 2021 season than saying it’s an utter disappointment.  He’ll look to get back on track next weekend vs. an Eagles team that is fighting for their playoff lives.

I’m not going to spend too much time talking about running backs and targets this weekend as running backs and targets did not mix well.  Not a single back had more than 50 yards receiving this weekend and there were only 5 receiving touchdowns for backs.  Ameer Abdullah led all running backs in receiving yards.  If that doesn’t tell you about the weekend and running backs, I don’t know what will.

Tight End Targets

Where I do want to spend some time is with Tight Ends.  I’ll start with Mark Andrews.  Week 15 was very kind to Andrews.  He led all tight ends with 13 targets.  Andrews was able to catch 10 of them for 136 yards and 2 scores.  My season long fantasy team thanks you very much.  This was Andrews second consecutive week with over 100 yards receiving and fourth overall.  Up next week for Andrews and his mates are the Cincinnati Bengals in a must win game for the Ravens.

While Andrews had a stellar week, Travis Kelce was really the one who stole the show.  Kelce finished 9 yards shy of the 200 yard mark.  He was able to convert his 13 targets into 10 catches and 2 touchdowns.  This was Kelce’s first 100 yard game since week 10 against the Raiders.  The combo of Hill and Kelce combined for well over 300 yards.  They’ll look to do it against this coming weekend against the Steelers.

We won’t go down the negative road and talk about the night that Rob Gronkowski had.  Ok, you talked me into it.  Gronk had arguably his worst game of the year, as did Brady. The only other game that comes close to his poor week 15 performance was all the way back in week 8 vs. the same New Orleans Saints.  Gronk was targeted 11 times yesterday and was only able to catch 2 of them for just 29 yards.  Gronk season long owners in the playoffs probably weren’t too happy with that yesterday.

Quarterback Target Share

Ryan Tannehill threw the ball 32 times in week 15.  Of those 32 times, more than half went to either his running backs or tight ends.  Once Julio Jones left the game yesterday, it became a much different plan of attack for Tannehill.  Tannehill now has 3 consecutive weeks with less than 200 yards passing.  With both his top receivers injured he’s struggled to find anyone else.

When you have a tight end like Mark Andrews, you use him heavily.  That’s exactly what Tyler Huntley did on Sunday.  Of the 39 pass attempts for Huntley, a third of them went to Andrews.  Another third went to Marquise Brown, although those were far less successful than Andrews’ targets. This has pretty much been the game plan all year.  Thrown to either Andrews or Brown and it has worked with much success.

If you expected the Lions to completely dominate the Cardinals in week 15 raise your hand?  I doubt anyone is raising their hand right now.  Jared Goff had his way with the Cardinals secondary yesterday.  Goff only threw the ball 26 times yesterday, but 21 of them were caught which is an extremely solid completion %.  Of his 26 attempts, 20 went to his wide receivers.  Amon-Ra St. Brown was the biggest beneficiary as he caught 8 of his 11 targets for 90 yards and a score.

Running Back Touches

At this point, Jonathan Taylor has to be considered one of the front runners for the MVP.  Week in and week out he has been a stud.  He’s reached the 100 yard mark in 8 of his last 11 games.  Taylor also has touchdowns in all but his first 3 games of the year.  The Colts are in the thick of the playoff race right now and it’s 100% due to the play of Taylor.

With the Lions top 2 running backs on the shelf this weekend, Craig Reynolds stepped up and boy did he step up.  He was second to only Taylor in week 15 with 26 carries.  He made the most of his carries as he finished with 112 yards on the ground.  In his two weeks carrying the ball Reynolds now has 195 yards on 37 carries.  Not bad for someone cut earlier in the year.

Just moments before kick off the Dolphins announced that Duke Johnson would be the starting running back.  That 100% looked like the right call in week 15 as Johnson finished with 107 yards on 22 carries and 2 touchdowns.  While Gaskin owners I’m sure weren’t overly enthusiastic about the move, it worked for the Dolphins as they beat up on the lowly Jets.  Up next week is a much tougher task in the Saints and you have to think that the Dolphins will turn to a healthy Gaskin more.

Playbook

The ‘Playbook’ as I like to call it shows a breakdown of the play splits that teams used this past weekend.

The Indianapolis Colts ran the ball almost 80% of the time in week 15.  Why not when you have the league’s most prolific back.  Of the Colts 51 plays this week, 39 were for runs compared to just 12 pass plays.  It worked for them this week as they surprisingly beat the Patriots 27-17.

Tampa Bay continued to throw often last night, even thought it just wasn’t working.  Tom Brady threw the ball 48 times and had only 26 completions.  It was just the second time all year that Brady was held without a passing touchdown.  A lot of it was due to the fact that the Buccaneers were decimated by injuries last night as they lost Fournette, Evans, and Godwin to injuries mid game.  That led to Tom Brady being shutout for the first time in 15 years.

Inside Look Wrap Up

Week 15 was as weird of a weekend as we’ve seen in quite some time, and hope to see in the near future.  Covid wreaked havoc on the schedule as we now have a 2 game slate on a Tuesday and a Monday afternoon game.  We did have some solid performances as 5 backs rushed for over 100 yards and another 5 guys had over 100 receiving yards.  We still have a healthy amount of games left with 4 still to play.

Let’s dig in and see if we can find sometouchdowns!

Touchdown Dance

Jonathan Taylor vs. Buffalo Bills

Jonathan Taylor is playing some insane football right now.  He’s on a stretch we haven’t seen in quite some time.  Since week 14 he has 14 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns.  Over the last 2 weeks he rushed for 5 touchdowns against 2 of the better rush defenses in the league.

This week he gets a matchup vs. a Texans team that is one of only 6 teams to give up double digit rushing touchdowns on the year.  Look, anything can happen on any given Sunday.  But we’re talking about one of the best backs in the business against one of the worst rush defenses in the league.  Nothing is ever a lock, but Taylor is as close to a lock for a touchdown as there is this weekend.  Confidence Level – Bet the farm.

Joe Mixon vs. San Diego Chargers

Another team that has really struggled against the run?  Well look no farther than the San Diego Chargers.  On the year only the Jets have given up more rushing touchdowns than the Chargers.  Chargers have given up 14 rushing touchdowns this season.  They haven’t gone a game without giving up without giving up a rushing touchdown since week 4 against the Raiders.

If we switch gears to talk about Mixon, well he’s been damn solid.  Over the past 2 weeks he’s rushed for close to 300 yards and has 4 touchdowns.  He’s scored multiple touchdowns in 4 straight and has found the end zone in all but 2 games this season.  The stars have aligned for Mixon and he has a solid chance to make it 5 straight with multiple touchdowns.  Confidence Level – High

Miles Sanders vs. New York Jets

This pick is more matchup based than it is talent based as Sanders has yet to find the end zone this season.  Jets are one of the worst teams at defending the rush.  Over the past 4 weeks they’ve given up over 500 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns to running backs.  Everything is pointing to Sanders having a great game today.

The Eagles will be without Jordan Howard and their “star” QB in Jalen Hurts.  All of those extra chances, especially in the red zone, should funnel to Sanders today.  If Sanders finally gets more than a couple of red zone looks today, he should be able to finally find the end zone.  Confidence Level – It’s the Eagles so I’m going with Medium

Touchdown Dance Wrap Up

Other guys I also liks this week are Alexander Mattison, Mike Evans, and Leonard Fournette.  With some really bad offenses on the field today, we should see a healthy amount of touchdowns.

Good luck and hope to share the $5k with you!

Today I’ll be highlighting one of the tougher contests on MKF there is.  More or Less, 5/5.  Essentially, you need to get 5 picks correct.  If you go 5 for 5 you get a 20x payout.  Tough, the but the juice is worth the squeeze.  Especially if you end up winning.

More or Less – 5/5 20x

Jonathan Taylor vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers  (81.5 rushing yards) – More

I should start by saying that the Bucs are one of the best teams against the run in the NFL.  They’ve given up over 100 yards rushing just once this year.  They’ve given up over 80 yards just twice.  This is as good of a run defense as we’ve seen in quite some time.

With all that being said, Jonathan Taylor is on just an insane run right now.  He tore apart a solid Bills defense last weekend to the tune of 185 yards.  He’s on a mission for the MVP award.  While it will be a tough assignment, I’m all in on the guy and he should continue his insane run.

Tom Brady vs. Indianapolis Colts (305.5 passing yards) – More

The Colts haven’t been bad against the pass this year.  They’ve given up more than 300 yards just twice this season.  In both of those games they’ve given up more than 400 yards.  If we look at the schedule though, outside of last week they really haven’t had to face a tough QB much this year.

Tom Brady is no average QB.  He’ll go down as one of the best of our generation, if not the best.  Brady threw for 307 yards last week against the Giants in a blow out victory.  The Colts have been playing much better of late and I think they stay in this one.  If they do, Brady may very well throw for 350 yards at minimum.  I’m going with the over here.

Ben Roethlisberger vs. Cincinnati Bengals (250.5 passing yards) – More

In what should be a tight divisional match up today vs. the Bengals, I expect Big Ben to bring his A game.  That A game consists of throwing the ball often.  The Bengals have given up more than 250 yards 5 out of their 10 games this season.

One of those games was in week 3 vs. Big Ben himself.  In that game Roethlisberger threw for over 300 yards.  I like Roethlisberger’s chances of replicating that today.  I’m going with the more side as 251 is a number he’s hit 5 out of 9 games this season.

Chris Godwin vs. Indianapolis Colts (82.5 receiving yards) – Less

I’ve already highlighted that I think Brady gets to this 316 yards this weekend.  If he does, Godwin will be a reason why.  Godwin has 4 games this season in which he’s been targeted at least 10 times.  While I expect Godwin to get his looks this weekend, I don’t think he gets the magical number of 83 yards.

It’s a number he’s only hit 3 times this season.  With guys like Gronkowski back in the mix, Brady has his full array of weapons now.  There’s just too many weapons in this offense for Godwin to get up to his target today.  I’m going w/ the Less side of this one.

Diontae Johnson vs. Cincinnati Bengals (6.5 receptions) – More

In back to back weeks Johnson has seen 13 targets and had 7 receptions in both of the games.  He’s seen more than 10 targets 7 out of the 9 games he’s played this weekend.  In what’s expected to be a close game this weekend, I expect Big Ben to continue to look Johnson’s way.  With Johnson such a focal point of this offense, I think this 6.5 receptions number is going to be easy for Johnson this weekend.  He’s hit the number in all but 3 games this season.  I’m on the More side of this one.

Good luck and hope you cash!

Welcome to the Week 11 edition of The Inside Look for the 2021 NFL season.  This will be a data driven article and will go under the hood to see if the box scores tell the whole story about what transpired during the weekend.   My goal here will be to either calm your nerves about a player that may have underperformed or cause you to rethink some of the spots you may have taken.Outside of the MNF game we have a pretty good sense of what transpired this past weekend. Let’s dig in to the data!Wide Receiver TargetsBefore we dig in to individual player performances I wanted to take a moment to talk about why we focus so heavily on Targets.  Targets equal opportunities and in fantasy opportunity more often than creates production.  The more targets that a player gets the better chance there is that the player will return on value. Darnell Mooney is slowly becoming the guy in Chicago.  For the first time this season Mooney saw double digit targets...

Today I’ll be highlighting one of my favorite contests on MKF, the Touchdown Dance.  This Sunday MKF is running a special contest where if you play in a $5+ Touchdown Dance contest and all 3 of your players score a touchdown you get share of the jackpot.  Today’s jackpot is $5,000!

Let’s dig in and see if we can find some touchdowns!

Touchdown Dance

Jonathan Taylor vs. Buffalo Bills

Jonathan Taylor is quickly becoming a top back in the league.  He’s rushed for over 100 yards in 5 out of the last 7 weeks and has rushing touchdowns in all 7 of those games.  After a solid rookie season last year in which he rushed for over 1,100 yards, he’s well on pace to crush that number this year as he’s already over 900 yards through 10 weeks.  He is the Colts offense at this point.

The match up this weekend is a tough one for Taylor. There’s no sugar coating it.  However, if the Colts have any chance of keeping this one close they’ll need a solid game out of Taylor.   Confidence Level – High

Myles Gaskin vs. New York Jets

This weekend we get to see what wins out.  Bad Defense or Bad Running Back.  I was a little harsh there.  Myles Gaskin isn’t a bad running back.  He’s just not very good.  That said, no team in either conference has given up more rushing touchdowns than the New York Jets.  They’ve given up 17 of them this year.  The next closest team is the Chargers at 12.  They haven’t had a game w/out giving up a rushing touchdown since week 1.

Another factor leading me down the Gaskin rabbit hole is that he’s still the main guy in the red zone.  Although he had a goose egg in the red zone against the bills in week 8, he saw 5 red zone attempts in week 7, 3 in week 9, and 4 in week 10.  Those attempts are absolute gold and while he hasn’t had much success in converting those into touchdowns, he’s facing as easy of an opponent as possible this weekend.  Confidence Level – It’s Gaskin so not overly high, but high.

Nick Chubb vs. Detroit Lions

With Nick Chubb suiting up this weekend vs. Detroit, I’m all in on him getting a touchdown.  The Lions, similar to the Jets, are one of the worst teams against running backs.  There are 3 teams that have given up more than 10 rushing touchdowns this season and I’ve already highlighted the other 2 in the Gaskin section.  Lions are team number 3 as they’ve given up 10 rushing touchdowns.

If he’s 100% over his spat with Covid, he should be coming into this game with fresh legs.  Chubb has been extremely solid when on the field this season.  He’s only had one game under 80 yards and has multiple 100 yard rushing games.  He also has 6 rushing touchdowns through 7 games played.  Chubb stands an excellent chance to add to that number if he plays.  Confidence Level – High

Touchdown Dance Wrap Up

Other guys I also like this weekend are AJ Dillon vs. a suspect Vikings D and either D’Onta Foreman or Adrian Peterson.

Good luck and hope to share the $5k with you!
