Welcome to Thursday's edition of Between the Benches.   Unlike last night, we have a massive slate on our hands tonight. We have 20 teams in action, giving us plenty of options for our NHL DSF lineups. There are also some really glaring mismatches tonight.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Igor Shesterkin ($8.3K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – This is probably the mismatch of the night. We have a surging New York Rangers team facing off against a Canadiens team that is 0-5-1 in their last 6. The Canadiens are scoring less than 2 goals per game over that stretch. Shesterkin does have a little bit of a limited ceiling tonight because the Canadiens don't take too many shots on net, less than 27 per game. That said, we have shutout potential for the reigning Vezina trophy winner. Shesterkin is playable in all formats tonight, but more so in Cash.

Darcy Kuemper ($8.1k DK/$7.8 FD) vs. Columbus Blue...

Welcome to Wednesday's edition of Between the Benches.   Thanks to a massive slate last night, we're stuck with just a 3-game slate of NHL DFS tonight. It's a small slate, but we have some mighty teams playing and it should be a fun one.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Scott Wedgewood ($8.3K DK/$8.1k FD) vs. Anaheim Ducks – With Oettinger playing last night, we should get to see Scott Wedgewood between the pipes tonight for Dallas. Against any other team Wedgewood wouldn't be under consideration, but he gets to take on an anemic Anaheim offense. Over their last 6 games, the Ducks have scored just 8 goals. That's an average of just over 1 per game. That's downright awful.

Wedgewood has been competent in games he's played this season. He's sporting a GAA just over 3 and a save % of .910. Both numbers would rank as career bests. He has limited upside tonight because the Ducks don't take too many shots...

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   We have a nice sized 4-game slate tonight.  Even though it’s a pretty small slate, we still have several sports that we can go for offense.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Igor Shesterkin ($7.8K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. Ottawa Senators – Igor Shesterkin is coming off arguably his 2 worst efforts of the season.  He gave up 4 goals to Edmonton and another 4 to the powerhouse of a team we call the New Jersey Devils.  Tonight’s matchup against the Senators should be a solid bounce-back spot for him.

The Senators are coming into this one having scored just 15 goals over their last 6 games.  2.5 goals per game isn’t going to cut it and when playing against a normally solid goalie in Shesterkin, they should score even less than that tonight.  Shesterkin was very vocal about his performance against the Devils and should be ex...

Today’s article is going to focus on tonight’s 5 game NHL main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel.  With the trade deadline just days away, we’re going to want to keep a continued look at lineups up until the game starts.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

Goaltending

I’ll start by saying goalie tonight is horrendous.  No goalie is safe, but we do need to pick one, so let’s dive in and try to find one.

Andre Vasilevskiy ($8.2K DK/$8.5k FD) vs. New York Rangers – I used a goalie against the Rangers last weekend and it ended up burning me as the Rangers exploded for a bunch of goals.  I just don’t see it happening tonight vs. a much better goalie in Vasilevskiy and a much better defensive team in the Lightning.

After a little bit of a rough stretch for Vasilevskiy, he has back to back games giving up just 1 goal in each.  Rangers struggle to score goals at time, as evidenced by their 1 goal game against the Islanders on Thursday.  Look for them to struggle again tonight against a stout team and goalie.

Alex Nedeljkovic ($7.6k DK/$7.3k FD) vs. Seattle Kraken – This is a high risk, high reward pick tonight.  It’s tough to stomach playing Nedeljkovic, but he gets a great matchup and showed some life in his last game against the Canucks with a shutout.  Seattle is a team that really struggles to score goals.

Over the last month they’re averaging just 2.25 goals per game.  Not a good mark and it’s something that we can be somewhat confident in attacking. While this season has been a struggle for Nedeljkovic, he got back on track the other night and the matchup tonight should help build his confidence back up.

Stacks

Nashville 1 (Johansen, Forsberg, Duchene) vs. Toronto

The hockey world has so far fallen in love with Kallgren. Through his first 3 games played, he’s been “brilliant” allowing just 3 goals.  While he’s been great, tonight will be his first taste of road hockey.  He also has some metrics that show he may be playing with fire.  So far, he’s giving up a ton of rebounds.  At some point, giving up that many rebounds is going to bite him.

I do think that Nashville gets to him tonight and this top line is where I want to go.  The duo of Duchene and Forsberg has been great of late, with 9 goals and 20 points in their last 5.  They are clicking right now and with the matchup tonight, they’re my top stack.  I know Vegas has the Predators at just 2.25 goals tonight, but they are wrong on this one.

Montreal 1 (Suzuki, Caufield, Armia) + Petry vs. Ottawa

Ottawa will be giving Forsberg a breather tonight and going with Gustavsson in net.  On the year, Gustavsson has a poultry 3.68 goals against average.  He’s played sparing over the last few months, but when he’s been in net, it’s been good for the other team.

Caufield and Suzuki have been playing very well together recently.  Over their last 5 games, they’ve combined for 8 goals and 12 points.  They also have more 30 scoring chances between them.  On DK, Caufield is still somehow below $5k and it just seems like a mispricing.  He has 3 straight games of at least 18 DK points and if he continues with that tonight like he should, he makes for a great value.   Another great value on this Canadiens squad is Jeff Petry at just $4.1k.  He’s been over 14 DK points in each of his last 4 thanks to his shots plus blocks average of 6.4.  My core with the Habs will be Suzuki, Caufield, and Petry.

Detroit 1 (Larkin, Namestnikov, Raymond) vs. Seattle

In his last 7 games of action, Grubauer hasn’t given up less than 3 goals in any game.  On the year he has a goals-against average over 3.20.  That’s a number I really want to attack tonight.  It’s been a bit of a struggle for Larkin of late as he just 1 goal in his last 10 games.  What has me motivated to play him tonight is that he’s still shooting the puck a healthy amount, with an average of 2.5 per game over his last 5.  I think he bounces back in a big way tonight vs. a poor team.  I plan on pairing him with Raymond who is having a pretty successful rooking campaign, with 19 goals and 27 assists.  Over his last 5, Raymond has 3 goals and stands a very good chance to add to that number tonight.  Detroit has the potential in this matchup to be one of the highest-scoring teams on the slate.

Toronto is always in play, but just not one of my top stacks against a team Nashville.  Saros struggled against the Philly the other night, but that’s not the norm for him.  His superb goaltending can limit the upside of the Maple Leafs.

Other stacks (Ott 1 and 2, Mon 3, Tor 1 and 2, Cgy 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Jeff Petry – $4.1k on DK – 14 shots and 18 blocks over his last 5, lock him in
  • Roman Josi – Playing unreal right now, 10 assists in his last 5.  If you can afford him, play him.
  • Mattias Ekholm – $3.7k on DK and has 16 shots over his last 5 to go with 5 blocks.  Great Value
  • Adam Fox
  • Travis Hamonic
  • Moritz Seider
  • TJ Brodie

Vegas

Vegas has Nashville at just 2.25 goals tonight. They should smash that number

Summary

Tonight’s looking like a fun slate.  On some of these expected goal numbers, I really think Vegas got it wrong.  2.25 for Nashville vs. Toronto and 2.25 for Detroit vs. Seattle are numbers that just seem way off.

Make sure to use our optimizer when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  I’m Jared and I’ll be your host.  Tonight we have a nice sized 8 game slate where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL slate on Fanduel and Draftkings.

Before we dive in I want to highlight some terms you’ll see in my article that may be foreign to you:

  • Corsi – Any shot attempt (goals, shots on net, misses and blocks) outside of the shootout
  • Even Strength – Play where both teams have the same number of players (including goalies) on the ice. Includes 5v5, 4v4, 3v3
  • Power Play – Play where the team has more players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 5v4, 5v3, 4v3
  • Penalty Kill – Play where the team has fewer players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 4v5, 3v4, 3v5

Goaltending

Jacob Markstrom($7.9k DK/$7.9k FD) vs. Winnipeg Jets – Jets are a team that have some fire power, but recently they’ve been shooting blanks.  Over the past 2 weeks the Jets have one of the worst shooting percentages of any team on tonight’s slate.  It’s sitting at just 5.37%.  They’re firing at will as they have been averaging over 34 shots per game during that stretch but nothing is finding the back of the net.

The Jets have been averaging just 1.86 goals per game over their past 7 games.  In Markstrom we have an elite goalie who has a 1.73 GAA on the year and a .940 save %.  All signs point to Markstrom having a solid night and being one of the best values in net.

Ville Husso ($7.8k DK/$7.8k FD) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – Husso has only played in 2 games this season.  1 game he was brilliant, the other game he was average.  Tonight he faces a Blue Jackets team on the tail end of a back to back set.

They’ve been averaging around 33 shots per game over the past 2 week so we know there’s a good chance that Husso gets some volume tonight.  If he plays like he did in his first start with that type of volume he stands a good chance of having a solid night tonight.

Goalie is a train wreck in my opinion tonight.  Outside of Markstrom I have little comfort in any goalie.  Normally I’d put a goalie vs. the Canadiens, but have no interest in DeSmith.  You could make a case for Cal Petersen but he’s more than I’d like to pay for a goalie.

Stacks

Detroit 1 (Larkin/Bertuzzi/Raymond) + Seider or DeKeyser

If you have followed me this season, you know my affinity for the Red Wings.  They are a high risk, high reward type of team.  Tonight I love the spot for them.  The Sabres as a team are a mess defensively.  They’re giving up more than 4 goals per game on average in their last 7 games.  As per usual with the Red Wings, Larkin and Raymond are my priority.

The two of them have combined for 6 goals and 12 points over their past 5 games.  They also play together on the top power play unit.  For this stack, I’d also consider adding in Seider.  While his price has crept up there, he plays with Larkin and Raymond on the top power play also.  He’s also getting more than 4 shots plus blocks in his last 5 games.

Los Angeles 1 (Kempe/Arvidsson/Kopitar) + Roy

The Kings have been struggling of late.  Over the past 2 weeks they’ve only scored 9 goals in their 5 games.  There’s no better slump buster than the Ottawa Senators.  This is a great bounce back spot for the Kings.  While they haven’t been scoring much of late, the top line is where I want to stay tonight.  Kempe and Arvidsson are my priorities here as they are the ones playing the best of late.

Over their last 5 games they each have individual corsi’s of at least 25.  Between the 2 of them they have 20 high danger chances over that stretch too.  At some point, they’re going to break back through and it should be tonight.  Kempe, Arvidsson, and Roy all play together on the top power play as well so they’ll correlate throughout the game.

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby/Guentzel/Kapanen) + Letang

The Canadiens are another team that is an absolute mess.  Over their last 7 games the are giving up more than 4.2 goals per game and over 37 shots.  Teams are just firing at will against them.  The Sabres had 39 shots and 4 goals against them last night.  There’s no reason to think that the Penguins can’t replicate that tonight.

I love both the top lines for Pittsburgh tonight but my preference is the top due to how well Guentzel has been playing.  Over his past 5 games he has 25 scoring chances, with 15 being considered high danger.   My priority here would be Guentzel and Kapanen.  Crosby is starting to heat up a bit as he has 11 shots over his past 3 games. That said, $7.1k on DK is still a lot to pay for someone that hasn’t been scoring.

Other stacks (Both top lines for Edmonton, Pittsburgh 2, STL PP1, Col 2, CGY 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Cale Maker – Colorado Avalanche
  • Roman Josi – Nashville Predators
  • Jakob Chychrun – Arizona Coyotes
  • Esa Lindell – Dallas Stars
  • Kris Russell – Edmonton Oilers
  • Vladislav Gavrikov – Columbus Blue Jackets

Summary

We may see some sloppy hockey tonight as nearly half the teams playing tonight played last night.  Sloppy normally means some extra goals.  Markstrom is my top goalie tonight and it’s not really close.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Goaltending

Juuse Saros ($7.7k DK/$7.2k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – Any chance I get I try to pick on the lowly Montreal Canadiens.  Offensively, they’ve been a mess.  Over the last 2 weeks they’ve been averaging just 2 goals per game on around 32 shots.  Quick math tells me that’s just an awful shooting % at just a shade over 6%.  So the Canadiens are shooting the puck, just with no success.

In Saros we have a goalie that’s been playing pretty well, but not great.  He hasn’t had a game under 14 DK points since early November so we know he’s not going to kill us.  There should be some upside with Saros tonight with how the Canadiens have been playing.  He’s one of my favorites tonight on FD as he’s only $7.2k there.

Jacob Markstrom ($7.6k DK/$7.9k FD) vs. New York Islanders – I’m chasing the ceiling with Markstrom tonight.  He’s had back to back stellar games with more than 26 DK points in both.  In his last game he shut out the Buffalo Sabres.  With the matchup against the Islanders tonight he’s facing another team here that has an extremely low shooting %.

Over the last 2 weeks the Islanders have just a 4% shooting %.  That’s insanely low and while I expect to see some positive regression with them at some point, I just don’t see tonight against one of the top goalies in the league.  This is the cheapest that Markstrom has been on DK since late October.  His price went down $900 on DK after his shutout.  I’m all in on him tonight.

Jack Campbell ($8.3k DK/$8.7k FD) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins – I’ll start by saying I’m going to live with my top 2 goalie choices tonight in Saros and Markstrom.  If you want to go the expensive route Campbell deserves some consideration.

He’s been lights out in November.  In the 8 games he has started this month he’s been under 20 DK points just twice.  The Penguins are getting healthy with Crosby back in the lineup but I don’t think they’ll be any match up for the surging Maple Leafs and Canadiens.

Stacks

Detroit 1 (Larkin/Bertuzzi/Raymond) + Seider or DeKeyser

I absolutely love Detroit tonight. They’re facing off against a Coyotes team tonight that’s just downright bad.  They are certainly priced up tonight but w/ the match up I get it.  The Coyotes have been giving up close to 33 shots per game over the past 2 weeks with a save % under 90%.  Any time I see that combo I’m automatically intrigued by the matchup.

The Coyotes also have a slate worst 42% corsi over the past 2 weeks.  Offenses are hammering them right now.  Any offense w/ the Red Wings starts with Larkin.  When he’s on the ice and the Red Wings score he’s always involved.  My priority here would be Larkin and Raymond.  Bertuzzi’s price is getting up there while the production hasn’t.  Bertuzzi is far more playable on FD tonight.

Vegas 1 (Stephenson/Stone/Dadanov) + Hague or Pietrangelo

Let’s start by saying that the Columbus Blue Jackets gave up 4 goals to the Coyotes on Thursday night.  The goaltending for them has been pretty shaky of late.  Merzlikins has given up 12 goals over his last 3 games after starting out the year pretty solidly. In 4 of his last 5 starts he’s had a save % under .900.

With the Golden Knights tonight we should be able to find some goals.  With Mark Stone back in the lineup the Golden Knights get back one of their key weapons.  He’s had an assist in each of his last 3 games.  My core in this stack is going to be Stone, Dadanov, and Hague.  Hague at just $3.6k on DK feels like an absolute steal w/ his production of late.

Edmonton 1 (McDavid/Puljujarvi/Hyman)

You know the drill.  When McDavid is on the ice, he’s in play.  Thankfully for us he gets a solid matchup tonight vs. a Blackhawks team that has one of the worst Corsi’s of any team on the ice tonight.  They’re Corsi % over the past two weeks is at 43%.  Only the Coyotes have a worse number of the teams playing tonight.

While I love Hyman, I’m more than likely going to pair him with Pulj tonight due to the savings.  Over his past 5 games Pulj is averaging nearly 3 shots + blocks so we know we’ll get some productivity out of him.  Look for McDavid to continue his dominance over the NHL Tonight.

Other stacks (Edmonton 2, CBJ 1, STL 1, NSH 1, Tor 1 or 2)

Top Defenseman

  • Zach Werenski – Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Seth Jones – Chicago Blackhawks
  • Charlie McAvoy – Boston Bruins
  • Nicolas Hague – Vegas Golden Knights
  • Dante Fabbro – Nashville Predators
  • Martin Fehervary – Washington Capitals

Summary

We have a fun looking slate tonight.  There are 4 games w/ a total of 6 and the rest of 5.5.  We should definitely see some offense tonight.  I can’t wait to see what a young Red Wings team can do tonight vs. an awful defensive team in the Coyotes.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

NHL Betting Picks Sunday 2/28

Welcome to Keith's NHL Betting Picks Sunday 2/28. A 1-2 day yesterday as Matt Murray let us down by giving up some goals you and me could've saved in the Senators/Flames tilt. A good win with the Flyers money line, and then a questionable goal was scored with 10 minutes left in the Golden Knights/Ducks game that pushed it to OT with Vegas ultimately winning. You be the judge if this look like a high stick:

Looks like a high stick to me, but I digress.

Today we have 6 games let's take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentage for the teams playing today:

Flyers Money Line (-175) and Puck Line (-1.5, +148) against the Sabres

Blackhawks Money Line (-195) against the Red Wings

Islanders Puck Line (-1.5, +220) against the Penguins

Cash with Flash Best Bets had a silly day yesterday and thank goodness for the Miami Dolphins covering for the third consecutive week otherwise Cash with Flash Best Bets would have been 1-3 after a crappy Monday.Buffalolosing in overtime gave Cashwith Flash Best Bets its tenth overtime NHL loss of the season and wehaven’t finished October yet smh. One the one hand it means we were unlucky, and our luck should turn around; on the other hand, it's very frustrating to continuallylose winnable wagers because of an unlucky bounce of the puck.Cashwith Flash Best Bets understands that is why its called gambling, but it still sucks all thesame. The NewOrleans Pelicans' loss was on me. I host the Monday podcastand I wrote yesterday's column on Sunday evening and neither Jrue Holiday nor Derrick Favorswas on the injury report I getdirectly from NBA media. I would never have touted the Pelicans winningthat ballgame without either of those two. I put my REALNAME on this column and my reputation as a...

Cash withthe Flash Best Bets is back for another round of sports betting information andhopefully more winning picks like the Raptors covering the seven points lastnight. It took overtime, but that’s okay because Cashwith Flash Best Bets has been on the wrong side of a bunch of NHLovertime games, so we were due for some overtime luck to go our way.The National Basketball Association has a full slate of games on tap and the main thing Cash with Flash Best Bets wants you to remember about the NBA is this; It’s a longseason. What we mean by this is we don’t have a sense of urgency as we do with the NFL and NCAA. The season is much longer and we don't need to chase every game and wager more than we should on any one game because a LOT can happen in these early games.Coaches don’thave their rotations set; some players are slow starters while other playersget off to a fast start and then fade away. The NBA is uniquethis season as the majority of the 2019 Free Agent class-switched teams andthat...
