NFL DFS Preseason Week 1: QB, TE & DST Picks of Destiny

Preseason NFL is all about finding players who will have guaranteed playing time and high usage on the field. Follow my position plays and lock in the NFL DFS Picks of Destiny.

NFL DFS Quarterbacks

Note: All players are priced the exact same on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Update: Joe Webb III is going to get the most playing time of any QB tonight. The Texans are extremely thin at QB with AJ McCarron suffering a thumb injury in practice. Lock him in.Josh Rosen: is battling for the staring job in Miami. Ryan Fitzpatrick is ahead of him on the depth chart now but Rosen will have just as much time on the field Thursday. Not only will Rosen have a significant opportunity but it won’t be vs the Atlanta Falcons starting defense. Josh Rosen was a NFL starting quarterback last year, and with it only being his sophomore year in the league, he still has A LOT to prove. He wants to take over as the starter on this team and I would bet he does by the end of the season.Paxton Lynch (SEA) Russell Wilson is not playing, which leaves Geno Smith and Paxton Lynch as the only two quarterbacks left on the roster. Lynch is at minimum getting a half of playing time. Throw in that Lynch is a vet and the fact that he will get the chance to dissect his former team’s third string defense and I’m sold.Teddy Bridgewater (NO) He is finally healthy and set to see plenty of time at QB vs the Minnesota Vikings. Drew Brees will not see much time (if any) and I have a feeling Sean Payton is going to want to keep Taysom Hill healthy this season. Hill is the third string QB and the Saints Swiss Army knife, and Payton won’t want to risk an injury with him either. Bridgewater is going to get at least a half vs his old team. He can do it in the air and with his legs. He is going to get the opportunity, and I think he deliversNate Sudfeld (PHI): He has looked impressive in the preseason and has received praise from head coach Doug Pederson. Sudfeld is very familiar with the Eagles offense and should be on the field for about half the game. He has also developed chemistry with the second team receivers such as Mack Hollins. He feels safe.Quick Thought: Kyler Murray: I will fade him as a NFL DFS play for a few reasons. I expect high ownership and even if he does get in the endzone, they should pull him. I don’t see any reason why they would let him just keep marching up and down the field (which is highly unlikely anyway) risking the number one overall draft pick. Plus, this is the first time he will be facing an NFL defense. It’s not easy.

NFL DFS Tight Ends

T.J. Hockenson (DET) is getting a lot of buzz out of training camp. The Lions are eager to see what they have in Hockenson and should give him several opportunities to make an impact in his first preseason game vs the Patriots. He already caught one TD against them in a joint practice recently so let’s see what happens when they target him again in the red zone on Thursday. I say he continues to show off his hands.Robert Tonya (GB) is getting praise from the coaching staff for not only his route running and hands, but for his after the catch ability. He was brought back this season because Aaron Rodgers and the Packers like what they have seen out of him and believe he can contribute. He needs to show off this preseason to try and lock down the number two TE spot on the roster. I will use him as a low owned NFL DFS dart.Parker Hesse (TEN) The Titans will be thin at TE their first preseason game with Jonnu Smith out and Delanie Walker to get a very light load, if he even plays (he is fragile). Hesse should see the field plenty. Opportunity is really all you can ask for in the preseason and Hesse should be getting that. He will be out there at least half the game and is a red zone threat.

Defenses

Defense in the preseason is not going to be easy to predict. One of my general rules is take home teams. Below are three defenses I will be working into some of my DFS lineups.

  1. Chiefs
  2. Eagles
  3. Cardinals
