MLB DFS Winners and Losers: The Danny Jansen Show

We had an 11-game slate on Thursday June 13. There was even a game in Omaha, Nebraska! The Cardinals and Mets game was suspended until later today. All prices and point values are from DraftKings.

Winners

Leury Garcia ($3,700)

Leury Garcia had a solid game at home against the New York Yankees from the top of the order, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. His home run was the deciding factor in the game, coming off Adam Ottavino. It looks like Garcia could be breaking out of his recent cold streak and could be a potential value player in your lineup.

Garcia’s Outlook

Leury Garcia had been in the midst of a cold streak, going 8-for-45 (.178) in his previous 11 games. He was able to hit a timely home run against one of the best relief pitchers in the league and provided offense from the top of the order. The White Sox play their second of four games against the Yankees today with veteran CC Sabathia taking the hill. Look for Garcia to use his speed to be an irritant.

Danny Jansen ($2,300)

Danny Jansen went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. As a catcher who hasn’t shown much at the plate, this was definitely a surprise to see Jansen have a game like he did last night. If you spend big at another position, do not be afraid to pencil him into your lineup and you will get pretty good value for his extremely low price tag.

Jansen’s Outlook

Danny Jansen is hitting .304 in the past week, but had not hit well prior to that. In the past month, Jansen is 17-for-90 (.189) with two home runs and 11 RBI. Toronto travels to Houston to begin a series against the Astros. The Astros boast the lowest Batting Average Against and the third-lowest ERA in the Majors. Scoring runs off their pitching is difficult for the best hitters, let alone a batter of Danny Jansen’s caliber. Fade Jansen for the time being, but be on the lookout to see if he truly figured something out at the plate recently.

Losers

David Price ($9,700)

David Price had a rough start against the Texas Rangers last night. He went 1.1 innings and gave up six runs on five hits. He also tallied a walk and two strikeouts. He labored on the mound, throwing 49 pitches to get those four outs. Look for Price to have a solid start next time.

Price’s Outlook

If you eliminate the start when he was pulled for flu-like symptoms in Houston, this was Price’s shortest outing of the season. The Texas Rangers were all over him and drove Price’s ERA to 3.52. He had been pitching well recently and provided back-to-back quality starts against the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. His next start will be on Tuesday on the road against the Minnesota Twins. With the low pitch count and success against strong opposing lineups this year, look for Price to throw a gem.

Jonathan Villar ($4,200)

Jonathan Villar did not look great at the dish yesterday against Marcus Stroman and the Toronto Blue Jays. He finished hitless in five at-bats with three strikeouts. Villar is on a bit of a cold streak lately and should not be in your lineup until he breaks out of it. There are players around the same price range that will provide better outcomes than Villar has of late.

Villar’s Outlook

Jonathan Villar has been struggling as of late, going 6-for-37 (.162) in the month of June. He isn’t getting on base either in that stretch, posting a horrendous .205 OBP. Villar isn’t working out in the Baltimore leadoff spot the past two-plus weeks and probably needs a day to sit out and clear his mind. Until manager Brandon Hyde does that, I do not see Villar breaking out of this slump. The Orioles host the Boston Red Sox tonight and Villar should not appear in any lineups.

Injury Update

The Yankees could see their power hitters in their lineup sooner rather than later with both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton potentially joining the Major League club on their next homestand, which starts Monday.

Yoan Moncada of the Chicago White Sox will be out of the lineup until sometime this weekend with a mid-back strain.

The Dodgers placed Corey Seager on the IL with a hamstring strain “somewhere between Grade 1 and Grade 2”. The Dodgers have not placed a timeline on his return.
