MLB DFS Hitter Stacks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 7/23/22

Published

on

Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

The action takes place at night with a 10-game slate on DK beginning at 7:05 PM EST. On FD the CLE-CWS game is not included because it’s the second half of a doubleheader –but DK obviously isn’t thrown off.

We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on SP.

Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!

MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 7:05 PM Slate

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Brady Singer (& Game Stack option)

Let’s start with a game that’s stackable from both sides because of the favorable hitting conditions and relatively high HR/FB rates for both starting pitchers (16.2% for Singer and 22.2% for Luis Patino). It’s a little easier to play the slightly favored Rays in MLB DFS with how well the bulk of their lineup fares against RHP, and especially pitchers who throw mostly fastball-slider-changeup as the bulk of their pitch repertoire.

Singer could be in for a shorter outing against the likes of Yandy Diaz, Ji-Man Choi, Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes. On the Royals side, the top four hitters (MJ Melendez, Bobby Witt, Andrew Benintendi and Hunter Dozier) are also all in play, and value option Nick Pratto could be a sneaky play at 1B.

On a slate following a 28-run outburst by the Jays, a lot of folks will be searching for the next enormous team total, but I like the option of a sneaky game stack here as a contrarian play when multi-entering GPPs.

UPDATE: With Arozarena and Paredes sitting, I’m less interested in the stack as a whole but we can consider using a minimum-priced Luke Raley in the 3-slot and Brandon Lowe batting second for Tampa.

Atlanta Braves vs. Patrick Sandoval

I’m not convinced that Sandoval has what it takes to breeze through this Braves lineup full of lefty mashers. The usual suspects are all in play, including Ronald Acuna, Dansby Swanson, Austin Riley, Matt Olson, Adam Duvall and William Contreras. I really favor Riley, Swanson and the slightly discounted Duvall, and while we probably can’t afford a full stack here or with the similarly expensive Yankees, the right three guys can get us on the road for a takedown.

The hitting environment is friendly in Atlanta, and it’s not a spot we need to overthink, even if Sandoval’s pitch repertoire toolbox is a little bigger than some of the three-pitch youngsters we’d prefer to target in MLB DFS.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Anibal Sanchez

Sanchez came up with the Marlins in 2006, and he’s not the same pitcher he was in his youth. Since the end of the 2020 season, he’s made just the one start on July 14, when he got roughed up for 4 ER (two homers) in 5.0 IP against the Braves.

The D-Backs can get us some much-needed salary relief, even with some of their better hitters including Ketel Marte, Daulton Varsho, Josh Rojas, Alek Thomas, David Peralta and Christian Walker. Only Marte reaches the $5K (flat) threshold, and most of these bats are under $4K.

With a projected team total around 5 runs, Arizona will be a key piece of my builds today, just like they were last night — just with a lot of different pieces.

New York Yankees vs. Jordan Lyles

Aaron Judge cannot be contained (two more HRs last night), Joey Gallo (just $3,100) and Josh Donaldson both have GREAT history vs. Lyles, and if I can find a way to squeeze in either Anthony Rizzo or Giancarlo Stanton, I’m going to do it.

The Yankees must have watched what the Jays di din Fenway last night and salivated at the hitter-friendly confines and stiff wind blowing out to center field, but even the Orioles and their nonsense design could be in trouble vs. this team of sluggers. They could be a trap and they aren’t cheap, but I’m getting exposure to the Yankees tonight in the new Camden Yards.

Gallo, of course, may sit (Update: he is sitting) if they plug in Matt Carpenter in the outfield, but I like him too. Gleyber Torres is not cheap but he’s historically fared well vs. BAL.

Also consider:

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Jose Urena

Chicago White Sox vs. Konnor Pilkington

Contrarian Stacks: Miami Marlins RHB vs. Jose Quintana; Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Alex Wood

Slate Summary: There are oodles of options for stacks today and some good pitching options, so let’s put ourselves in position for some green screens using the articles and projections — and finalizing things based on late-breaking lineup news and via Discord chat. Good luck today!

I'm a writer from upstate NY in a cool little Hudson River town called Coxsackie. Too many interests to list, but the films of David Lynch, the books of Kurt Vonnegut, the music of Jack White and the maddening sport of golf are near the top of my list. Big into DFS, specializing in baseball, football, golf and hoops. I've written for FFToday.com, RotoExperts and Baseball America, to name a few.
