12/21 EPL DFS Picks and Props

This article focuses on EPL DFS Picks for 12/21 on DraftKings and FanDuel. Both sites have fairly different scoring formats. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large.

Main Slate

Leicester City (+600) at Manchester City (-260) – Under 3.5 goals (-130) – LATE GAME – FANDUEL ONLY

This is far and away the best game on this slate. Not only are the teams significantly better than elsewhere, but this game certainly has more importance unless you are talking about the importance in terms of determining the relegation spots. Manchester City will play host, and Vegas has them listed as heavy favorites. Clearly, they do not believe in Leicester City over the long term. Given the defensive issues, though stemming from Aymeric LaPorte’s season-long absence among other reasons, I don’t mind targeting some Leicester here. As always it is James Maddison and Jamie Vardy as this team is fairly to easy to grab a share of given the consolidated production right now. As for the Manchester City side, as always when you get their lineup after lock, be sure to save a few extra dollars. Gabriel Jesus is a certainty with Sergio Aguero still sidelined but you can never be truly definitive with much else. Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne are the next two most likely to be in. When you get to the Silvas, and Rihad Mahrez or Ilkay Gundogan, it is an absolute guessing game.

Wolves (-130) at Norwich (+250) – Over 2.5 goals (-120)

Wolves are the largest favorites on the DraftKings slate. Norwich City is coming off a big upset road draw with Leicester City. However, this has still been one of the worst teams in the EPL this season since their promotion over the summer. On DraftKings, the main target is Adama Traore with his high level of activity, and on Fanduel it is Raul Jimenez with his higher goal-scoring potential. Beyond that, you can consider Joao Moutinho, whose role on set pieces always makes him more of a DraftKings play. He has shown a strong floor there. You can also take more of a GPP stance on FanDuel with Diego Jota, the odd man out in the attack. But other than that I do not think I would target a lot. On the flip side, a Norwich stack worked out last week so if you want to fire up an Emiliano Buendia or try to bank on another Teemu Pukki goal, on this slate you can go for it. On DraftKings, a Todd Cantwell or Kenny MacLean isn’t awful.

Sheffield United (+250) at Brighton (+115) – Under 2.5 Goals (-135)

Blah. Last week’s star for Sheffield United, John Fleck, is out for this game. Maybe that gives more viability to Oliver Norwood but there are better plays. As for Brighton, Pascal Gros is priced all the way up on DraftKings. I think the last time out was his ceiling game and it will be tougher against a good Sheffield United defensive front. You’re possibly looking at 10 points for that price so I’d prefer Traore mentioned above in the same range, as I think he is much more likely to score in addition to peripheral stats. Neal Maupay has been scoring goal, so again with this slate as it is, he makes for a fine play whether as a one-off or paired with Gros if you’re feeling frisky and stacking Brighton.

Southampton (+185) at Aston Villa (+130) – Under 3 Goals (-120)

For Southampton, it is the usual suspects, James Ward-Prowse and Danny Ings. I also don’t mind Cedric Soares as a DraftKings punt defenseman. Aston Villa has a lot of guys with potential fantasy viability, but Jack Grealish has the highest floor. On FanDuel in particular where Grealish is comparatively cheaper and guys like John McGinn and Anwar Al-Ghazi are fairly moderate in price as well. If you would consider many of the aforementioned plays as viable on most slates, then they are certainly in play here.

Burnley (+180) at Bournemouth (+120) – Over 2.5 Goals (-115)

Call me crazy but on DraftKings, I sort of like a couple of Cherries, notably Ryan Fraser for that price, and Diego Rico. I think they have solid floors and make for strong plays here. I don’t know if my stomach can take dealing with their forwards though. As far as Burnley, I probably prefer going up to Traore/Gros overpaying nearly as much for Dwight McNeil but if it fits the build. Ashley Westwood is fine and won’t give you a zero. As always, you can mess with the Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood combo and they have shown upside before but can also burn your lineup.

Crystal Palace (+200) at Newcastle (+120) – Over 2 goals (-125)

This should be the lowest-scoring game, which speaks volumes on this slate. Let’s start with Newcastle. I am not sure what is going on Jonjo Shelvey, but I will pass at that price as I doubt the goal-scoring is sustainable “the other stats are”. Sean Longstaff is fine and should be popular on DraftKings. Fabian Schar is still cheap on FanDuel. As far as Crystal Palace, I think Luka M. is my favorite play from this team. Newcastle has allowed the most crosses so far in the EPL this season so this is an upside spot for him.
