1/18 EPL DFS Picks and Props

This article focuses on EPL DFS Picks for 1/18 on DraftKings and FanDuel. Both sites have fairly different scoring formats. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large.

The Breakdown

We have Manchester City coming in as a huge -1000 home favorite as of the time of writing “Crystal Palace is at +2200 to win”. That game is at main lock so we will avoid the usual problem associated with Manchester City, that being the guessing game in terms of the lineup. They will likely al be huge chalk and in cash games you need to eat at least one piece, on FanDuel perhaps multiple pieces. After that, on FanDuel we have the late game where Chelsea is a -200 favorite away at Newcastle.

The Blues will likely get the second most ownership although there is the uncertainty of the lineup. However, one would presume key pieces will be in like Tammy Abraham, Willian, and Callum Hudson-Odoi on the basis of Christian Pulisic’s injury. The defensemen are a little harder to predict as they tend to vary. Bottom line though I would eat Man City first as there is a big gap between a -1000 favorite and a -200 favorite, not accounting for the certainty we will get with the lineups, as well. Pretty much the entire front half of the Manchester City lineup will be in play.

Tournament Moves

Beyond that it’s a matter of what you do for tournaments. There is not a whole lot separating a lot of these teams so if you have a strong feeling for something, go for it. Brighton at -165 is actually the next biggest favorite on this slate and that perhaps speaks more to just how bad Aston Villa has been recently than it does to the Seagulls. They are fine though, although better suited for DraftKings. Arsenal is a -120 favorite but Sheffield United has been really good defensively, so not an ideal team to target. Plus leading scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be suspended. That game and all others not mentioned yet have really low totals.

If I like anything, it’s probably Norwich City. As Jason Kandrach pointed out recently, they have been much better at home “although awful on the road”. This Bournemouth team has been beyond terrible recently plummeting all the way to second to last on the table and potential relegation. Their forwards have been a combination of injured and awful when in, leading to this team last winning in the EPL on December 14th. Emiliano Buendia has been a monster so at minimum he is in play. This is a must win game for both teams who are currently sitting bottom of the table in a league where three teams get relegated. Teemu Pukki has -155 goal scoring odds, so pretty high all things considered.
